?Chapter 979:
She shrugged off the nket and made her way to the bathroom without a nce back.
The mirror fogged slightly as she brushed her teeth. Behind her, Wesley appeared in the doorframe, leaning against it withzy interest.
“Where are you going?” he asked, his eyes narrowing as he watched her.
Elena spat into the sink and sshed cold water on her face. “I’m heading to the square. Need to grab a couple of things.”
He crossed the room in a few strides and wrapped his arms around her waist from behind. “Fine, but I want you to take something with you.”
Elena turned slightly, her curiosity piqued. “What are you giving me?”
Wesley reached into a drawer and handed her the pistol he’d picked out for her the day before. “From now on, keep this on you.”
Surprise shed across her face as she tested the weight of the gun in her palm. It was lighter than she expected. A small smile curved her lips.
That smile didn’t escape Wesley’s notice. He saw it, and something quiet and satisfied gleamed in his eyes.
Scarface was still somewhere in the. It was smarter not to take any chances.
Once she finished getting dressed, Elena made her way downstairs. Wesley was already on the couch, fully dressed and waiting, his patience evident.
He folded the newspaper and set it aside the moment she approached, rising to join her at the breakfast table. When Wesley was around, her te was never empty. He always made sure her food was just the way she liked it.
Liberty days brought a different rhythm, and today was no exception. Charlette had woken up earlier than usual. Bounding down the stairs with bright eyes, she beamed at the breakfastid out before her. With a teasing smile, she plopped down next to Arion. “Hope you don’t mind somepany.”
Arion paused for a moment, then shrugged as she shamelessly took half his breakfast. “Not in the slightest.”
Turning her attention to Elena, Charlette asked, “Are you heading out today?”
Elena answered briefly, “Yes.”
Charlette’s grin stretched even wider, a glimmer of mischief lighting her face. “Great. I’ming too. Let’s go together.” She figured Elena’s big brother, Ellis, would follow close behind, which suited her just fine. “Sounds good,” Elena replied.
???????????????? ??????????????: ?????????ν??????﹒?????
Satisfied, Charlette happily finished off what remained of her meal. As breakfast came to a close, Wesley pushed back his chair and stood. “I’ll go with you.”
Elena didn’t protest. “Alright.”
Soon, the four of them stepped out of the estate, the morning already buzzing with activity.
But the sight of Kason waiting at the gate immediately wiped the smile off Wesley’s face. His eyes narrowed.
“You invited him?” Wesley asked, his toneced with irritation as he turned to gaze at Elena.
The moment Elena spotted Kason, she remembered what he had mentioned the day before—that he’d be heading out too. Unfazed, she replied, “Yeah. He said he’d show us around a bit.”
Though Wesley didn’t speak, the tension in his jaw was unmistakable.
From across the gate, Kason’s eyes brieflynded on Elena. But when he spotted Wesley, his expression froze before quickly smoothing over. “It’s crowded out there. The streets are packed today. We should get moving,” Kason said, motioning ahead.
