?Chapter 837:
A woman Samira was on friendly terms with quickly pulled her aside. “Samira, have you heard? They’re saying your niece has been awful to those who raised her. That woman there ims your niece is nearly driving her to her grave!”
“Who?” Samira asked with a furrowed brow, briefly thrown off. The woman’s voice dropped to a whisper as she said, “Elena, the girl found back from Foiclens.”
Samira had never been fond of Elena. Learning that someone from the Reed family hade around stirring up trouble only added to her irritation.
Samira scoffed. “Who can tell what’s going through her head? She came from some nowhere ce and refuses to listen to anyone. Every time I try to give her advice, she snaps right back.”
Despite her efforts, Samira found it impossible to feel any affection for Elena. Her interactions with Alexander’s family, and particrly with Elena, had lessened over time.
Meanwhile, Cecily continued to cause amotion, hurling insults at Elena and branding her as thankless.
Samira’s face clouded, her features tightening with hatred. This was more than just a personal issue for Elena. The entire Harper family’s reputation was at stake. She knew she couldn’t just observe from the sidelines.
Silently, Samira made her way to Alexander’s home and told Elena to handle the situation with Cecily. If this mess kept going, the Harper family would soon be the target of every whisper and sideways nce in the’s elite circles.
Elena was taken aback by the audacity of the Reed family in showing up again. She had thought they had vanished for good. Previously, they had drugged her, nned to trade her to an elderly man, and aimed to snatch half of the Harper family’s fortune. Fortunately, she had recorded their scheme and publicly revealed their duplicity.
Since being exposed, the Reed family had remained out of the spotlight, avoiding any scandal. Elena had believed they had finally learned their lesson. Yet, it appeared some never change. Elena frowned and asked, “Where is Cecily now?”
???????????????? ??????????????: ?????????ν??????﹒?????
With evident disdain in her tone, Samira replied, “She’s right by the front gate, making a scene. A crowd has formed, and it’s quite the embarrassment for the Harper family.”
Samira rolled her eyes, her irritation with Elena clear. If it weren’t for Elena, when had the Harper family ever been the target of anyone’s ridicule?
Without engaging further, Elena headed for the door.
At the gate, Cecily had beenmenting loudly for ages, her voice now a hoarse whisper. She was simmering with resentment. Why wasn’t Elena here yet? With the Reed family bankrupt, she felt she had nothing to lose. She was determined to make Elena withdraw thewsuit today.
Cecily copsed onto the ground. “Everyone, tell me—isn’t someone like Elena surely headed for damnation? I poured my heart into raising her, and now that she’s reconnected with her rich birth parents, she tossed me aside. All she cares about is fortune and reputation, cold as stone… Why is my life so horrible, that I should be burdened with such a thankless daughter?”
Cecily was in the midst of a full-blown tantrum, writhing on the ground theatrically.
Just then, Elena appeared, catching the tail end of Cecily’s exaggerated outburst. “Put all that effort into raising her? Seriously? How unbelievable,” Elena muttered. Cecily sure knew how to twist the narrative to her advantage. Back then, the Reed family had barely shown her any concern, leaving her to fend for herself. If she hadn’t been sharp, she likely would have starved to death a long time ago. Moreover, it was her contribution that had lifted the Reed family into Foiclens’ high society. However, the moment the Reeds learned she was not their flesh and blood, they had eagerly distanced themselves. Now, they dared to cast themselves as victims?
