Chapter 824

    ?Chapter 824:

A trace of irritation crossed Elena’s face. She raised her voice slightly, saying, “Excuse me. I need to ess a patient’s file.”

Only then did the nurse nce her way, clearly annoyed. “Not happening,” she retorted.

Whatever drama the nurse was watching had her more invested than her actual job. Still holding her phone and popcorn like they were sacred, she said, “Move. You’re in the way.”

Elena scoffed. In the way? More like the nurse wanted to focus on her phone instead of doing her job.

The tantziness stirred a wave of frustration in Elena. A nce at the clock confirmed her instincts—it was ten in the morning. Well within working hours. And here this nurse was, lounging like she was on a movie break.

Without a word, Elena reached forward and yanked the earbuds right out of the nurse’s ears.

The nurse shot up, raising her voice like someone had pped her. “What the hell is wrong with you? Are you blind? Can’t you see I’m busy?”

Elena let out a cold, mocking smile. “Busy? You call watching TV being busy? Maybe I should invite your director over and let them see just how hard you’re working.”

The nurse smirked, cing her hands on her hips and jabbing a finger toward Elena’s face. “Go on then, call him! If you’ve got the guts, drag the director over here. Who do you think you are, barking orders at me? I’m the one in charge here! That file’s not leaving this desk today, no matter what you say. Now beat it!” No attempt was made to hide her hostility.

Thewyer, unable to tolerate it any longer, showed his credentials. “I’m awyer. We’re conducting an official investigation. I’m asking for your cooperation.”

Normally, a badge would have been enough to make someone think twice. However, the nurse just rolled her eyes. “And? You think I care? Call yourself the king ofwyers if you wish, and I still wouldn’t give you that damn file.”

Thewyer stood there, taken aback by just how unprofessional the hospital staff were acting. “It’s working hours. You’re not doing anything important. Why are you refusing to assist a legal process?”

Slouching deeper into her chair, the nurse crossed her legs with exaggerated ease and grinned. “Because I don’t want to. What are you gonna do about it? My uncle’s the deputy director, so if I decide not to work, that’s my choice. Who are you to tell me different? Go ahead and report me. Let’s see if that makes anyone bat an eye.”

A deep crease settled between thewyer’s brows as the situation grew more absurd by the minute. Turning toward Elena, he lowered his voice as he said, “The document of Sylvia’s medical record is crucial. Without it, we may not be able to hold Sylvia ountable.”

Elena gave a slight nod, her expression unreadable, calm as still water. “We’ll get it,” she said, steady and certain. “One way or another.”

Overhearing that, the nurse burst intoughter, crumbs of popcorn falling onto her scrubs. “Keep dreaming. Haven’t I told you? Even the president couldn’t make me hand that document over.”

Elena shed a cold, mocking smile. “Is that so? I hope you can hold on to that arroganceter. Don’t back down.” Provoked, the nurse snapped. With a wild re, she grabbed her tub of popcorn and hurled it straight at Elena. “Let’s see if I back down!”
