Chapter 759

    ?Chapter 759:

Alice was hauled out before she could even open her mouth. After Mauricio spilled the beans about Elena’s identity, a bunch more people started swarming her.

Elena frowned a little and quickly made up some excuse to duck out to a quieter corner.

As soon as she caught her breath, a low chuckle drifted from the shadows.

“Who’s that?” she asked, her face tight with wariness.

“Pleasant to see you, Helena…” A tall figure emerged slowly from the darkness.

The guy was wearing a pink shirt, unbuttoned just enough to show off his hard-looking chest muscles. He had a fox mask covering his face, but Elena could tell from his smooth skin and sharp features that he was young and good-looking.

Earle casually twirled a cigarette between his fingers, his eyes gleaming with a wicked, yful light as he sized Elena up. She definitely threw him for a loop. She was a writer too? Just how many identities did this woman have?

Earle bit the end of the cigarette with his thin lips, took a long drag, and slowly blew out the smoke, which swirled around his face hidden in shadow. His green eyes locked onto Elena with an intense, unwavering gaze.

Elena felt like she was being watched by some kind of dangerous animal, her frown deepening with unease. For some reason, she couldn’t shake this feeling that the guy in front of her was seriously dangerous.

Earle wasn’t sporting his usual loud floral shirt today, and the dim corner made it hard for Elena to get a good look at his green eyes. She figured she’d interrupted something. She mumbled an apology and turned to get herself out of there.

Earle flicked his cigarette away. With his prey practically handed to him, there was no way he was letting her go. “Hold it right there.”

Earle said, “Not even a little ‘hello’ for an old buddy? What’s the big rush to get out of here?”

Elena froze in her tracks, a confused look shing across her face. An old friend? What was he talking about? Did this guy even know her?

From the shadows, Earle sauntered into the light. His green eyes sparkled with cold amusement, and a wicked smile yed on his lips. Elena tensed up, her instincts screaming at her to back away as he moved closer. She recognized those eyes. How could she ever forget them? It was Earle, the notorious leader of Avaloria’s most dangerous and ruthless gang, Shadow. What was he doing here?

Laughter and music still drifted over from the party, but here in this quiet corner, the air was thick with tension, like a rubber band stretched to its breaking point.

Elena’s eyes darted around, her mind already mapping out every possible way to escape this situation.

Seeing her all tense and ready to bolt, Earle’s lips curved in amusement. “Chill out. I’m not here to hurt you.”

He was dressed in tailored dress pants and a pale pink shirt, the sleeves casually rolled up and the top buttons undone. One hand was casually shoved in his pocket as he sized her up, azy, dangerous smile ying on his lips.

A fox-shaped mask hid half his face, making him look even more dangerous and mysterious.

Earle was unpredictable. Elena knew better than to drop her guard for a second.

Elena frowned, her voice sharp. “What are you doing here?”

“Oh, you know, just here to kill someone,” Earle replied casually, raising an eyebrow like he was talking about the weather.

Elena didn’t buy his nonchnce for a second.

His rolled-up sleeves revealed his forearms, and a streak of dried blood was smeared starkly across his skin. At least he wasn’t even trying to hide it.
