?Chapter 1149:
I shot him a sharp look, unable to hold back a smile, and teasingly warned, “If you don’t get better, I’ll toss you out!”
Bryan chuckled quietly, then unexpectedly took my hand. His eyes softened, and the tenderness in his gaze made my heart skip a beat. “You know, being hurt isn’t all that bad. At least it means you’ll be with me longer.”
I stopped for a moment, feeling my cheeks heat up, and looked down, speaking in a low voice. “Stop being silly… Getting better should be your number one goal.”
Bryan smiled, but he didn’t say anything else. He just held my hand, not willing to let go.
I let him hold my hand, staying quietly by his side.
That night, I sat by the bed, watching his calm face as he slept, the sound of his deep breaths steady and soothing. A deep sense of peace and safety settled in my heart, something I’d never felt before. Maybe this was what it meant to depend on someone.
The next morning, I had dozed off lightly by Bryan’s bedside when a knock on the door jolted me awake.
When I opened the door, I saw Jett standing there, his face tense and his brow furrowed. “Evie’s awake. You should go see her.”
I nodded, briefly ncing at Bryan, still asleep in bed. I quietly closed the door, my heart heavy with sadness, and headed toward Evie’s room. As I opened the door, a wave of dread washed over me.
Eviey still on the bed, her vacant eyes staring at the ceiling. Silent tears flowed down her face, soaking the pillow beneath her.
My heart ached with worry as I rushed to her side, speaking gently. “Evie, are you alright?”
Evie didn’t answer. She just kept crying quietly, as though she hadn’t heard me.

Her eyes were empty, so full of sadness it nearly broke me, as if she were just a shell of herself, her spirit swallowed by hopelessness. I gripped her hand, my voice shaking with fear as I turned to Jett, asking desperately, “Jett, what’s happening to Evie?”
Makenna’s POV:
Jett shot me a meaningful nce before guiding me out of the room. I felt confused, noticing the deep crease on his forehead, which made me uneasy as I waited for him to exin.
Jett let out a heavy sigh, his face full of worry, and spoke quietly. “Evie was given a magic potion by the Wizard n. They used it to control her. Though the potion’s effects are gone now, she remembers everything that happened.”
I stood still, my eyes wide, struggling to believe what I had just heard. Jett continued, “She… she took her grandmother’s life under the potion’s spell, and it’s been too much for her to bear. The trauma’s been too great. She can’t seem to get past it and won’t speak to anyone…”
I was left speechless, never expecting things to unfold this way.
“So… how is she holding up now? Is there anything we can do for her?” I asked, my voice filled with worry.
Jett shook his head slowly, his voice thick with helplessness. “Physically, Evie’s fine and has mostly healed, but mentally… she’s shut herself off. She won’t talk to anyone. If this keeps up, I fear she might do something drastic.”
He looked at me with sincerity. “Makenna, you’re the closest to Evie. She trusts you more than anyone right now. Please, talk to her. Try to get her to eat something, even if it’s just a little. She needs to keep her strength up.”
