Chapter 1142

    ?Chapter 1142:

“Makenna, we can’t let him dictate our moves. This could be a setup,” he said, his hand gently sping mine tofort me. “We need to find our own way to rescue them.”

I nodded, my fury slowly giving way to rity.

He was right. I couldn’t let Leonardo’s threats break me. Evie and her grandmother were counting on me.

Closing my eyes, I forced myself to think logically, weighing every possibility.

After a moment, I opened them, my voice resolute. “I’ve made up my mind. I’ll face Leonardo myself and talk to him.”

“What?” yton’s hand dropped from mine, his voice rising. “That’s too risky! If he resorts to such underhanded tactics, he’s beyond reason. Going to him is walking straight into his trap!”

“yton is right, Makenna. You can’t gamble with your safety,” Bryan added, his brow creased with concern. “We’lle up with another n. You don’t have to endanger yourself.”

Dominic stood quietly nearby, saying nothing, but his disapproving stare spoke volumes.

Jett, leaning against the wall with arms crossed, his face a mask, said icily, “Makenna, Leonardo wants to capture you. If you go, you will be handing him exactly what he’s after.”

I met their worried gazes, understanding their fear, but my resolve held firm. “I know it’s dangerous, but it’s my only shot to save Evie and her grandmother. I can’t abandon them to suffer.” A heavy silence nketed the room.

Finally, Bryan exhaled deeply, giving a reluctant nod.

The next morning, I opened the city gates and, alongside Jett and the three princes, headed to the location Leonardo had specified. There, Leonardo lounged atop his throne, gazing down at me with a frigid expression and a taunting smirk. “Makenna, you have finally arrived.”

I didn’t respond, my eyes darting to Evie and her grandmother, Rosaline. They were bound to weathered stone pirs nearby, coarse ropes biting into their wrists. Bruises and cuts marred their faces.

My heart ached, but I forced myself to stayposed, swallowing my rage. With a steely voice, I said, “Release them. They’re innocent. If you have an issue, take it up with me.”

Leonardo’s soft chuckle wasced with menace. “You think you can give me orders? I hold all the power here. You’re out of options.”

My fists clenched, nails digging into my palms. The sharp pain anchored my focus. “Where are Alice and Winfred?”

Leonardo leaned back casually, fingers tapping the throne’s armrest as if this were a trivial game.

“They are held elsewhere. If you and your white wolf n members surrender, I will let them go.” He paused, his smirk widening as his gaze shifted to Jett behind me. “And him—he must surrender too.”

Suddenly, Evie thrashed wildly against her restraints.

    “Mrnm! Mmm!”

A gag muffled her voice, her desperate sounds hinting she was trying to warn me.

In an instant, the soldier beside her raised a hand and struck her face with a brutal p.
