?Chapter 1096:
I was exhausted. My legs still tingled from the numbness.
His hand brushed sweat from my forehead before he ced a soft kiss at the corner of my mouth. Then he gently pinched my nose and murmured with a smirk, “Since you’re still recovering, I’ll go easy on you… this time.”
Makenna’s POV:
As I nestled in the aftermath of passion, yton gathered me into his arms and whisked me to the bathroom.
The warm cascade of the shower enveloped my skin, washing away my exhaustion.
yton moved with deliberate gentleness, his fingers barely skimming my flesh.
After I was clean, he carried me back to bed before briefly disappearing to prepare a bowl of nutritious soup, returning with it cradled carefully in his palms.
The rich aroma of the soup drifted upward, instantly awakening my hunger with its inviting scent.
I had been regaining my strength steadily during this time, my once-fragile body responding well to the nourishing food.
When yton tried to feed me himself, I sat up and took the bowl from his hands, savoring each slow sip on my own.
“Your cooking is still incredible—a taste I could never tire of,” I said, genuine appreciation warming my voice.
Settling beside me, yton reached out to tuck a loose strand of hair behind my ear, his voice soft with affection. “If you enjoy it so much, I’ll make it for you again tonight.”
“Okay.” I nodded, happiness spreading through me like sunlight.
Suddenly, the door burst open, interrupting our moment as Bryan strode in with purpose in every step.
His eyes darted between us, lingering on the marks visible on my neck. His expression darkened instantly, jealousy clear in his tone. “What’s going on here?”
yton gave Bryan a brief nce before turning back to me, his lips curving into a knowing smile. “Isn’t it clear?”
Bryan’s face clouded over, his fists clenching so tightly his knuckles turned white with strain.
“yton, you heartless bastard!” Bryan seethed, his words slicing through the air. “Makenna’s body has barely begun to heal, and you dare—to vite her this way?”
His gaze pierced yton with icy contempt, his voice trembling with rage that threatened to erupt at any moment.
Heat flooded my cheeks at his usation. I ducked my head, my whispered defense barely breaking the tense air. “I’m… I’m perfectly fine now.”
“But—” Before Bryan could protest further, I quickly redirected the conversation. “What brings you here so urgently? Has something happened?”
Bryan shot one more venomous nce at yton, jealousy still simmering beneath the surface, before regaining control of his emotions. His tone turned grave. “Alex has confessed everything.”
yton and I straightened immediately, the levity draining from our faces as we waited breathlessly for Bryan’s revtion.
“Alex confirmed the Wizard n is actively hunting Jett,” Bryan continued. “Their king lies on his deathbed, and the n’s eldest prince sees this as his opportunity to eliminate Jett as a rival and secure the throne. He’s secretly ced a bounty on Jett’s head and dispatched skilled assassins to silence him permanently.”
