    rmed, I darted forward, positioning myself as a human shield before Jett while extending my arm to block Bryan’s advance.


    “Bryan, don’t do something you’ll regret!” I pleaded desperately. “Let’s not escte this! We can’t afford to turn against each other now!”


    Despite my restraining hand, Bryan struggled to break free, his voice raw with anger. “Makenna, just look at him! How can you defend his attitude?”


    I gripped his arm with fierce determination, even as pain pulsed through my skull.


    Gradually, Bryan’s rage subsided. He shot one final venomous re at Jett before ceasing his struggle.


    The atmosphere remained thick with unspoken hostility.


    At that precise moment, Maia entered the room. “I’ve tended to the white wolves. With Pa’s assistance, we’ve managed to stabilize many of them. They’re offering to help slow the progression of the poison in the affected citizens.”


    Her news sent a wave of relief washing over me, and I exhaled deeply.


    “Finally, some positive development. We must use this borrowed time to devise a strategy for obtaining the antidote.”


    My words were cut short as the butler burst into the room.


    Anxiety etched deep lines across his face, perspiration beading on his brow as he fought to catch his breath before announcing, “Your Highnesses, Mr. Pierce, someone from the Wizard n is at the gates requesting an audience with you.”


    Makenna’s POV:


    The atmosphere in the main hall grew tense.


    Everyone paid rapt attention to the butler.

    Even I was nervous.


    The Wizard n had always been at loggerheads with us werewolves. It was strange that they would nowe to us on their own. What could they possibly want from us?


    Bryan, too, appeared worried by this. Lowering his voice, he asked, “How many people from the Wizard n are here, and why are they here?”


    The butler swallowed nervously before saying, “Only one wizard came. He ims to be a messenger from the Wizard n and wants to meet with the representatives of the werewolves.”


    A feeling of dread welled up within me as I heard this, and I automatically turned to Jett.


    I saw a look of fear on his face, but it disappeared so quickly that I began to wonder if it had actually been there.


    This, however, made me even more worried.


    Perhaps Jett knew something about this?


    The situation was urgent, so I had no time to contemte Jett’s odd behavior.


    Dayton stood up and said, “We should listen to what the messenger has to say since he’s here. After all, the wizards have the antidote, and this might be our only chance to get it.”


    Everyone agreed, although their mistrust was still evident.
