?Chapter 1057:
Before I could voice my confusion about where I was, a warm breeze wrapped around me like a gentle hug. Startled, I nced toward the source of the wind.
A luminous figure emerged, her form radiant and poised, as though crafted from whispers of light and dusk. Her face remained a mystery, but the soothing warmth she radiated calmed my restless soul.
She bent toward me slightly, her voice a tender balmced withpassion. “Dear, I’m so sorry I couldn’te to you sooner.”
Her words unleashed a flood of emotion within me. The terror, the fight, the despair of recent days surged up, overwhelming my heart.
Tears welled in my eyes, spilling over as I stammered, “I’ve been so afraid… I don’t know what to do… I’m exhausted, so powerless…” My voice broke as I poured out my anguish.
The figure listened in silence, and then murmured with a tone of remorse, “I’m to me for pulling you into this, for letting you endure such pain.”
Her apology hushed my cries. A flicker of hope stirred inside me, and with a shaky breath, I asked, “Are you my mother, the Saint, Josie?”
Makenna’s POV:
The suspicion had lurked in the shadows of my mind, the thought of discovering my true identity, but until now, I had never had the chance to confirm it. Standing before this familiar figure, I steeled myself with determination to finally uncover the truth. My gaze locked onto her, silently pleading for a response.
She remained still, radiating a tranquil presence despite the unmistakable undercurrent of sadness that surrounded her. Time stretched between us like an endless thread until, with a soft sigh, she spoke in a gentle voice. “Yes, I am the Saint, Josie, and I am also your mother.”
The confirmation unleashed a torrent of tears I couldn’t contain. Without thinking, I rushed toward her, arms outstretched to embrace her—only to pass through her formpletely, grasping nothing but empty air. I froze in shock, my vision swimming with tears, emotion strangling my voice. When I finally spoke, the words tumbled out between sobs. “Then where are you now? Are you still alive?”

My mother’s voice wavered with unmistakable grief. “I have already passed away. The day you were born, I left this world.”
So it was true. My mother was truly gone…
The realization crashed over me like a violent storm, drowning me in waves of overwhelming sorrow. My legs buckled beneath me, and I crumpled to the ground, my cries breaking free without restraint.
A gentle breeze suddenly wrapped around me, soft as a mother’s caress against my head. Her voice flowed through the air again, filled with tender warmth. “Makenna, don’t be sad. Being able to give birth to you was enough for me.”
Fighting to control my sobs, I lifted my tear-stained face and managed to ask, “Mother, how did you die?”
At my question, her eyes clouded with a deep, haunting sorrow, as though she’d been pulled back into painful memories she’d long tried to forget.
She sighed and slowly began, “During those dark days when I was on the run, I met your so-called father, Connolly Dunn. He had been bitten by a venomous snake in the forest and was hovering between life and death. I took pity on him and saved his life.”
So that was how my mother had met Connolly after escaping from the pce. I sat in silence, absorbing her words as emotions stirred within my heart.
