Chapter 1044

    ?Chapter 1044:

“Yes!” The butler bowed briefly before leading a team of soldiers away with purposeful strides.

I sank into a chair, my eyes drawn repeatedly to the door as anxiety gripped my heart.

Bryan paced restlessly across the living room, arms folded tightly across his chest. Dominic leaned against the chair beside me, his gaze fixed on the floor, lost in contemtion. yton sat nearby, fidgeting nervously as we all awaited news.

Noting our grave expressions, Dayton instructed the servants to prepare breakfast.

Yet, despite the array of tempting dishes soonid before us, none of us could summon even a hint of appetite.

Minutes stretched into what felt like hours until, finally, the sound of hurried footsteps approached from the hallway.

A soldier rushed back, his chest heaving as he snapped to attention with a hasty salute. “After thorough investigation,” he reported betweenbored breaths, “neither the water source nor any food contained toxic substances.”

“What?” Dayton’s voice rose in disbelief. “Then what on earth is happening? Could it be something other than poisoning?”

    Not poisoning?

The realization struck me like lightning. I pped my hands as the pieces fell into ce. “Cody had been working with the Wizard n. What if these citizens were affected by a magic potion? That would exin why the doctors couldn’t identify the cause.”

My words illuminated the room like a torch in darkness. The three princes and Dayton turned to me in unison, their expressions shifting from confusion to understanding.

Bryan narrowed his eyes thoughtfully, taking a moment to process before speaking deliberately. “If that’s the case, I’ll dispatch someone to fetch Jett immediately. He might be able to resolve this crisis.”

Just as the final word left his lips, a familiar voice drifted in from the doorway. “No need toe get me. I’m already here.”

    Makenna’s POV:

We looked toward the doorway and discovered Jett sweeping through the living room.

Concern flickered across my face as I hastened to his side. “Jett, how are you holding up? Have you truly mended? You ought to have rested a while longer.”

Jett’s lips curved into a tender smile. “Your blood worked wonders—I’m nearly restored. No cause for concern.”

His words lifted the burden from my heart like a breeze scattering clouds. “That is a relief. I’m just overjoyed you’re on the mend.”

As we conversed, I sensed three sets of eyes boring into us, their scrutiny sharp as needles.

Dayton, seizing the moment like a drowning man clutching a rope, darted forward. “Mr. Armstrong, your timing is a godsend! We’re utterly adrift and in dire need of your counsel!”

With an air of unruffled poise, Jett motioned for calm. “I’ve pieced together the gist of it. On my way here, I inspected objects the townsfolk might have touched. I’m convinced this is a magic potion, likely slipped into the city’s water supply.”

A ripple of astonishment swept through us, nces darting like startled birds.
