Chapter 1038

    ?Chapter 1038:

At that, Amon’s rigid demeanor softened, and a deep breath escaped him, carrying away some of his tension. He murmured back,

“Alice had been hiding in a bar registered under her name at first, but Antoni’s crew was scouring the area and nearly caught up to them. Fortunately, I got them out and relocated them to my home just in time.”

My brow creased with worry as I studied him.

“Amon, if they find Alice at your ce, won’t that spell trouble for you? I’d hate to see you dragged into a mess because of this.”

He brushed it off with a casual shrug, his voice steady and self-assured.

“Miss Dunn, you’ve got nothing to fear. Being Prince Bryan’s trusted aide has its perks; no one would dare rummage through my house without solid proof. And honestly, who’d even point the finger at me?”

He leaned in, a sly grin spreading across his face, and added in a hushed tone,

“I’ve got a concealed cer at home. They could turn the ce upside down and still never stumble across it.”

His confidence finally eased the knot in my chest. But just as relief settled in, another concern bubbled up. I clutched his arm, my voice quivering with urgency.

“And Winfred? Is he all right?”

Amon gave my hand a gentle, forting pat.

“Miss Dunn, rx. Alice and the others were moved before any harm coulde their way. Winfred’s doing fine. He’s eating heartily, resting well, and under good care.”

Those words melted the anxiety that had been gnawing at me. Tears of gratitude welled up, threatening to spill over. I’d spent countless sleepless nights tormented by fears for Winfred’s safety, gued by visions of him and the others facing peril that left my heart in pieces. Now, with the assurance of their well-being, a wave of calm washed over me.

But before I could bask in thatfort, Bryan’s sharp, irritated voice cut through the air from a short distance away.

“How much longer are you nning to gossip with Amon?”

I nced up to see him standing there, arms folded tightly, his face etched with annoyance as if he’d erupt if I lingered a moment more.

I shot Amon a quick wink to ease his nerves and then raised my voice cheerfully, saying, “On my way!” With that, I hurried over to Bryan and the others.

As I approached, Dominic’s eyes darted between Amon and me, suspicioncing his tone.

“What were you two discussing? You both look awfully pleased with yourselves.”

I widened my eyes in mock innocence and teased,

“Oh, that’s ssified information—I can’t possibly spill it!”

I shed a mischievous smile, hoping to sidestep any prying.

yton’s gaze narrowed, a spark of envy glinting in his eyes.

“So, you and Amon are keeping little secrets now? Seems like you have quite a few things that you’re not sharing with us.”

I let out a small cough, pressing a hand to my stomach with an exaggerated pout.

“I’m starving, can we grab some food first?”
