?Chapter 992:
I took a moment before responding, reflecting on the moment when Evelyn’s true nature was revealed. Every nuance of her reactions hinted at herplex feelings toward Antoni.
I stated confidently, “The way Evelyn spoke of Antoni doesn’t sound like mere loyalty from a subordinate to a leader. It’s more like a woman’s admiration for a man.”
They looked at each other, their expressions a mix of doubt and thoughtfulness. My smile grew wider, and my delivery remained calm. “I can’t see any other reason for Evelyn’s deep dedication to Antoni, even to the point of conspiring against you three.”
As I was about to continue, Dominic cocked his head. His eyes twinkled mischievously as he interjected, “What if Evelyn doesn’t react as you expect? What will you do then?”
Before I could respond, a series of abrupt, insistent knocks sounded at the door. A muffled voice from the other side called out, “It’s me, open up.” It was Evelyn’s voice.
It appeared that fate had timed her arrival perfectly as we were talking about her.
The three princes shared a look, their expressions a mix of surprise, realization, and a trace of apprehension. Bryan quickly got to his feet and walked over to the door.
As he opened it, a rush of frigid air swept through the room, chilling the air. There stood Evelyn, dressed in ck. Her cloak mostly hid her face, except for her alert eyes.
Bryan motioned for her to enter and then swiftly shut the door, keeping the cold at bay.
Evelyn gracefully removed her cloak, revealing her stern face. She ced an old wooden box on the table and said with a sharp and frosty voice, “I’ve brought what you asked for.”
I raised an eyebrow, reached out to grasp the box, but just as my fingers nearly brushed it, Evelyn quickly withdrew it. She looked up, her eyes intense and focused on me, and her voice was firm. “Makenna, you can have the item, but on one condition.”

Makenna’s POV:
Evelyn, in her pitiful state, had the audacity to demand terms?
A faint scoff escaped my lips, my voice dripping with frost. “Evelyn, you’re hardly in a position to dictate anything.”
She was nothing more than a pawn in this intricate chess match, yet she harbored delusions of flipping the board entirely.
Rather than bristling with anger, Evelyn let out a chillingugh, her words deliberate and measured. “Makenna. I’m well aware how vital the contents of this box are to you. If you hope to topple Cody, you’ll need what is inside.” She hoisted the wooden box aloft, a feral glint sparking in her eyes, her tone sharp as a de. “Refuse my terms, and I’ll destroy it. Your grand schemes will crumble to dust!”
Before her threat could fullynd, she brandished a small bottle in her other hand, her voice turning arctic. “This potion can dissolve the box in an instant. One touch, and its contents will vanish like smoke. Choose wisely.”
At her words, the three princes’ expressions darkened like storm clouds rolling in.
“Do you honestly believe you’re in any position to barter with us?” Bryan’s gaze flickered with icy menace, poised to lunge at her.
I swiftly intervened, tugging him back, wary that his recklessness could unravel everything. The air crackled with tension—we couldn’t afford to lose our grip now.
Drawing Bryan aside, I fixed Evelyn with a steady, unflinching stare. “What exactly do you want?”
