Chapter 951

    ?Chapter 951:

A flicker of greed shed through Jenny’s eyes, and she nodded eagerly. Just then, there was a gentle knock on the door.

My stomach tightened, and my heart began to pound in my chest. However, I managed to keep a calmposure. “Lie down quickly. The princes are here,” I whispered to Jenny.

Jenny hurriedlyy down and pretended to be ill. I took a seat by her bedside, sagging my body in a way that mimicked tiredness. Softly, I called out, “Pleasee in.”

The door opened, and the three princes walked in. I quickly stood up and bowed deeply. “Your Highnesses,” I said, my voice sounding tired.

Bryan waved a hand, indicating that I could straighten up. “How’s your mother now? Is she feeling any better?”

I nced despairingly at Jenny and replied, “My mother’s health is precarious right now. I worry that…”

yton smiled gently at me and said, “Why didn’t you have your mother stay at the pce? She is Anthea’s mother, and as such, we would’ve had the best doctors treating her.”

“You had a lot on your te at that time, especially with the Makenna situation. I didn’t want to add to your burdens. I thought it’d be best if my mother remained here.”

I couldn’t help but wonder what exactly had happened to Makenna. Had she really fallen off the cliff and died?

Feigning concern, I asked, “Is there any news about Makenna, Your Highnesses? I want to know if she is safe.”

    Dominic’s POV:

I observed Evelyn closely, noting the worry that shed across her face when she mentioned Makenna. Yet, there was a hidden emotion in her deep gaze that set off rms inside me.

With a slight smirk, I turned my attention to the woman lying in the bed and asked her, “Are you Evelyn and Anthea’s mother?” Changing tack, I asked a straightforward question. “What ailment do you suffer from that requires Evelyn’s constant attention?”

Upon hearing this, Evelyn’s mother’s eyes flickered, and a hint of panic appeared on her face. She quickly bowed her head. Her voice shook as she answered, “Your Highness, my heart has always been weak, and my condition has worsened with age. The doctor has prescribed bed rest, and thankfully, Evelyn chose to leave her pce duties toe and care for me…”

I arched an eyebrow. My suspicions grew, and my voice turned sharper. “Have you always resided in Marehelm?”

She hesitated. Her eyes briefly met Evelyn’s before she gave a tentative nod. “Yes… yes, Your Highness. We’ve always been here in Marehelm.”

Her demeanor puzzled me. I was curious why she seemed slightly fearful of Evelyn. Bryan and yton appeared to notice the tense air as well.

With a cold tone, Bryan broke the silence in the room. “Evelyn, I’ve already sent for a doctor to check on your mother. Should there be any health concerns, the royal family will ensure she gets the best medical treatment.”

Surprisingly, Evelyn didn’t show any sign of unease. Instead, she looked at us with a soft expression of gratitude and murmured, “Thank you so much.”

    Could we be overthinking this?

Were we being too suspicious? I narrowed my eyes, my guard still up. Then I signaled to the guard behind me. “Get the doctor right away.”

“Yes, Your Highness,” the guard replied before hurrying off.
