Chapter 798

    ?Chapter 798:

Smack! The sharp sound reverberated through the quiet, leaving a distinct imprint on Jett’s cheek. He turned around and fled, tripping over his feet as he ran away.

I remained frozen, watching him disappear. My thoughts jolted back to the present, and I grasped the full extent of what had just happened. My face felt hot with shame, as though mes were licking at my skin.

By the time I got back to my house, the sky had turned dark.

Evie saw me and came over, worried. “Makenna, why are you sote?” Her voice made my heart tighten, and memories of what happened at the library surged back.

“Is dinner ready? I’m really hungry,” I said, changing the conversation as my eyes flicked around uneasily.

From the kitchen, Alice called back, “It’s been ready for a bit, just waiting on you.”

Following the sound, I looked at Alice and suddenly recalled what Bryan had promised me today.

I walked toward Alice, beaming with excitement, and took her hand. “Alice, I have fantastic news! Prince Bryan has agreed to let you leave the pce today.”

    Alice blushed at my words.

She looked down, a little bashful, and replied, “I actually already knew. Amon told me.”

Seeing her joy, I felt delighted for her and asked with a grin, “What are your ns now? Are you thinking of marrying Amon?”

As I mentioned this, Alice’s cheeks flushed deeper. The redness spread from her face to her ears.

“I’m not entirely sure yet.” Her gaze was fixed on the floor, and her voice sounded tender and sweet. “Amon said I could leave the pce next week. He also asked if I’d like to stay with him afterward, but I haven’t decided yet.”

I cocked my head, puzzled. “Amon is amazing and treats you well. He’d be a wonderful partner.”

“But…” Alice hesitated, lifted her head, and held my hand firmly. “Makenna, I’m worried about you. You’re alone here in the pce, surrounded by all these cunning people. How can I go without being concerned for you?”

I was caught off guard, touched by her warmth.

It hadn’t crossed my mind that Alice would consider putting off her own happiness because she was worried about me.

With eyes filled with reluctance, she continued, “Makenna, I’m genuinely scared that you might get harmed. If I’m not here, what if those peoplee after you?”

Honestly, I was hesitant about saying goodbye to her as well, but I genuinely wanted Alice to pursue her own happiness.

I offered her aforting smile, softly patting her hand as I reassured her. “Alice, don’t worry about me. I’m not alone here. Evie is with me.”

For a brief moment, the mood in the room grew somber and tense.

Feeling the tension, Evie quickly stepped in with a cheerful smile. “Oh, let’s not dwell on this right now. Let’s go eat some dinner. There’s no need to stay hungry.”

    Makenna’s POV:

We sat around the dining table, chatting casually between bites of our meal.

Out of nowhere, Evie asked, “Makenna, what happened with the vase by the door today? It shattered when I came back. Did you get hurt?”

The mention of the vase brought Antoni’s face to mind, and my expression instantly darkened.
