?Chapter 757:
Dominic shook his head and said, “No, I don’t think that’s it. Perhaps Makenna didn’t cheat on us; nothing really happened between her and that man.”
Something in Dominic’s words prompted me to ask more questions. “Do you know something?” I asked curiously.
Dominic stroked his chin thoughtfully and then said, “I haven’t found anything. It’s as though someone made sure to leave no clues behind. I have nothing to go on.”
yton’s POV:
“Since there are no clues to be found, how can you be so sure that Makenna didn’t cheat?” I asked.
Although I desperately wanted Makenna to be innocent, that didn’t stop my rationality from making me ask, “What makes you so certain, since there’s no evidence to back it up?”
Dominic met my gaze and said, “We have never properly asked Makenna what really happened that day, have we?” His words hit me like a ton of bricks, stunning me. I quickly reyed the scenes from that day in my head.
Indeed, we had never asked Makenna what had happened. Instead, we had allowed anger to cloud our judgment and lost control upon seeing her and that man in the warehouse.
Later, when we hadn’t found any evidence of an aphrodisiac in her system, we had immediately concluded that she was lying.
But in all that time, Makenna had always seemed like she wanted to say something but was holding back for some reason. Whenever she tried to exin, we’d cut her off in our rage.
“But if she truly had nothing to do with that man, why then had he risked everything to help her escape?” I asked doubtfully.
Dominic shook his head and answered, “I do not have all the answers, but one thing I know for sure is Makenna knows who he is. They’re hiding something, and that secret might be the key to uncovering everything.”

I rubbed my temples, my frustration threatening to bring on a headache. “But… now that she wants nothing to do with us, what do we do?”
Dominic said nothing for a moment. Finally, he began, “If she’s truly been wronged, then this must have left herpletely disappointed in us. There’s no way she would tell us the truth.”
I let out a bitterugh at this. “It seems we owe her a sincere apology. Only by begging her forgiveness can we hope to bridge the gap and have any hope of reconciliation.”
Uponpleting my words, we heard footsteps approaching us. We turned to see it was Bryan.
“I heard everything you just said,” Bryan began. “I’vee to realize that my attitude toward Makenna ofte has been out of line. I want to do everything I can to make amends for the hurt I’ve caused her. But I’m afraid she won’t want any reconciliation with us.”
Bryan’s words struck a chord within me. We all knew how stubborn Makenna was.
We had wronged her without even trying to understand the truth. This must have left herpletely disillusioned with us. To add salt to the injury, we had kept her confined here. This wasn’t an issue that could be fixed with just a few words or half-hearted action.
Dominic and I exchanged nces, and we could each see determination in the other’s eyes.
In that moment, the three of us came to a wordless understanding that we needed to use our understanding of who Makenna was as a person to heal the wounds in her heart and win her back.
