    Baylee chatted for half an hour, then tilted her head, asking Ellie with a puzzled expression, “Why isn’t it moving?”

    “Come on, baby, your godmother is pretending not to know!” Ellie said, cradling her belly.


    They had been friends for so long that even if Ellie was vague, Baylee got the message right away.


    “Marvin visited me, but there’s nothing going on between us anymore,” Baylee pouted. “I told him I wasn’t looking to date right now, and he said if I ever wanted a partner, I should think of him first, or else he’d make trouble.”


    “He’s so brazen!” Ellie frowned.


    “He is indeed shameless,” Baylee snorted.


    If Marvin weren’t shameless, would he have shown up at her ce after getting hurt? Would he have stayed after he recovered? He had pulled off plenty of shameless acts.


    “You mentioned you’re traumatized by love. You couldn’t let go of the fact that Marvin tricked you?” Ellie asked, adjusting a cushion behind her back and turning to face Baylee.


    Baylee looked out at the twilight, deeply considering the question. Was it because she was afraid of being deceived again? Perhaps. Or, then again, perhaps not…


    “El, what still bothers me is this. Someone as maniptive as Marvin—I can’t figure out why he suddenly showed up in my life back then.” Baylee continued, “Unless he was trying topete with Quincy.”


    She admitted she had a certain charm. Her looks and presence were unmatched in Critport. But she had also built a reputation for being spoiled and arrogant since she was young, which wasn’t exactly what noble young men were looking for. They preferred girls who were obedient and well-mannered.

    “I heard that just the other day, the eldest daughter of the Green family made a move on Marvin. She even said she didn’t need him to marry her; she just wanted a one-night stand.”


    “The eldest daughter of the Green family?” Ellie thought for a moment. “Do you mean Amilia Green? The one whopeted with you for the ss belle title in high school?”


    “I didn’t even want that title!” Baylee recalled with a touch of disdain. “I remember Amilia’s boyfriend hitting on me, and she used me of seducing him. She was out of her mind! Her boyfriend was a jerk. Why would I waste my time with him?”


    Ellie found the youthful antics amusing andughed. She was about to speak when her phone suddenly rang.


    Baylee picked up the call and handed the phone to Ellie.
