?Chapter 1054:
“Let me take over,” Kaiden said, stepping forward to take the bowl and spoon from Katharine.
Ellie immediately reached for Katharine’s hand, not wanting Kaiden to feed her. “She’s my cousin. I’ll take care of it myself,” Katharine said with a smile, waving Kaiden off as she nced between him and Ellie.
The tension between the couple was palpable.
Both Glenn and Katharine noticed it but chose not to address it.
Kaiden’s expression tightened.
Ellie was his wife, so what was wrong with him taking care of her?
In the hours that followed, it became increasingly clear to Glenn and Katharine how distant Ellie had be toward Kaiden.
Ellie had a thorough prenatal check-up that morning.
The next day, the doctor entered the ward with the report, his expression serious. “The situation isn’t looking good, I’m afraid. The mifepristone could cause the baby to develop serious immune problems and a weak constitution. However, if the baby does well from here on out, it could still be healthy. The choice of whether to keep the baby is yours.”
“You decide to go ahead, make sure to protect the baby after you’re discharged,” the doctor said. The room fell silent.
Kaiden’s fists were clenched tightly. He felt responsible.
Katharine wrapped her arms around the stunned Ellie, gently rubbing her back. “I’m okay,” Ellie said after a long pause, her voice rough. “I was ready for this. I don’t want to give up the baby. It survived before, and it has a strong will to live. It wants to see the world!”
Katharine’s voice wavered. “Alright, our family can handle this.” They would address the immune issues. And if, unfortunately, the immune issues couldn’t be treated, they would still raise the child! A weak constitution was just a financial problem, and their family had no shortage of money or helpers!
Ellie quickly called Harry, asking him to arrange for someone to clean her downtown house and set up some basic furniture. The news about the baby was thest straw for Ellie.
“Ellie, you… you’re not nning to go back to Moon Manor?” Glenn asked, shooting a nce at Kaiden.
Kaiden’s face was dark, his lips tightly pressed together.
“Glenn, I want to live on my own,” Ellie said calmly. “I’ve already talked it over with Kaiden.”
“I didn’t agree to this, Ellie!” Kaiden shot back immediately. Ellie, holding her pregnant belly, looked resolute.
“Alright then! If you want to live alone, so be it!” Glenn said, unable to bear seeing Ellie so upset. “I’ll arrange for servants to help you. What kind do you prefer? Quiet or lively? Men or women? If they can y an instrument, even better. What kind of music do you like?”
“Men are not suitable for this,” Kaiden’s face darkened further.
Katharine snorted. “Why are you only considering female servants? I don’t understand why male servants are considered unsuitable. We didn’t say we wanted gigolos, did we?”
Ellie and Baylee were left speechless.
Ellie believed that Katharine’s single status had its reasons. Katharine was even tougher than Baylee! Who could possibly handle such a fierce woman?
With Katharine and Glenn around Ellie, Kaiden had no way of stopping her from doing what she wanted.
