?Chapter 1050:
It made sense. Everything from the same batch was still in stock, except for that one box, which had ended up in the discard pile. Since it was unopened and still within its expiration date, it had been easily mistaken for something misced. Still, the kitchen crew’s act of reiming it was incidental. Kaiden knew he was to me for tampering with the cake.
“So, you actually meant for me to lose this baby,” Ellie said quietly.
“El, that was in the past,” Kaiden replied, his voice low, almost pleading.
“Seriously?” Ellie asked, her voice barely above a whisper. “Kaiden, you’ve read so many books. You must know which foods aren’t safe for pregnant women. So why did you let me eat those harmful foods when the kitchen made them?”
She paused, then continued, “Eating those foods might not directly cause a miscarriage. But you did want me to lose the baby, didn’t you? Whether the baby stayed or not, you thought it was all up to fate, right?”
Kaiden opened his mouth but couldn’t find the words to speak.
He confessed that when he served her the food, it had felt like an uncontroble urge. He had been desperate for her health.
He feared that if she missed the prime time for treatment and couldn’t recover her eyesight, she would regret it.
He worried that if her eyes couldn’t be fixed, she’d face mockery.
His princess, who had always been untouchable, couldn’t be mocked for carrying a child.
The room fell silent again.
The quiet stretched on, heavy and unsettling.
Ellie wasn’t sure what she had been expecting, but she didn’t wait for Kaiden to say anything further.
Given the situation, what more could he possibly add?
Ellie took a deep breath and began to speak slowly. “Kaiden, let’s take a break for some time.”
Kaiden stood still for a few moments before replying in a rough voice, “What do you mean?”
He forcefully pulled Ellie into his embrace and vowed, “Sweetheart, I apologize for being with Carole when you needed mypany. I assure you it won’t happen again. I’ll always keep my phone close from now on.”
“Kaiden, if it were just you being with Carole, I might have been able to overlook it. I’m not that unreasonable. Even if I couldn’t reach you, I would have been upset, but I’d understand you were doing it for me.” Ellie hesitated before adding, “But I can’t forgive you on behalf of our baby.”
She had already given him one chance, but he had disappointed her and their baby once more, leaving her afraid.
“Kaiden, the doctor said that while the baby is okay for now, it might not be strong in the future.”
The sessful progression of the pregnancy would hinge on how the fetus developed in the uing months. A fetus was delicate, and even the slightest external disturbance could be dangerous.
Kaiden’s face tightened with unease.
He gritted his teeth and asked, “How long will we have to be apart?”
Ellie stayed silent. She had no idea. A persistent worry gnawed at her, and she couldn’t shake off the emotional block.
