?Chapter 1045:
She felt the weight of the cup in her hands, realizing the milkshake wasn’t finished yet.
Kaiden gazed into her eyes. “Yes, I’m teasing you because you can’t see.”
The atmosphere tensed for a moment. Her eye treatment was a sensitive subject for both of them. If Ellie had followed through with it, this kind of teasing wouldn’t have happened.
“Is it raining?” Ellie frowned.
She suddenly felt a coolness on her head and reached out to check.
“Yeah, let’s get in the car.” The rain was picking up.
Shortly after arriving home, Kaiden received a call and rushed out.
Ellie sat alone at the dining table, feeling uneasy.
As night descended, the light rain turned into a heavy downpour.
Suddenly, a thunderous sound echoed from outside the window.
Elliey in bed, startled by the thunder, and felt a dull ache in her lower abdomen.
She reached out to the space beside her, noticing it was cold.
Kaiden still hadn’t returned.
Ellie sat up, trying to alleviate the difort in her abdomen, but it only worsened.
She drew in a deep breath and reached for the phone on the bedside table to call Kaiden.
“Sorry, the number you have dialed is not avable right now. Please try againter.”
Ellie phoned Kaiden twice more.
Atst, someone picked up.
“Kaiden…” Ellie murmured.
“Mrs. Thorpe, Mr. Thorpe isn’t here right now, so he can’t talk to you,” said one of Kaiden’s subordinates.
“Where is he?” Ellie asked, gripping her stomach and frowning.
“Mr. Thorpe is in the emergency room,” the subordinate replied. Then he added, “But don’t fret. He’s okay. It’s Carole who’s having surgery.”
Let your imagination soar with gα?ησν????s.?ο??
At the mention of Carole, Ellie held back her pain and tried to control her anger. Her voice was cold. “Go find him and make sure he picks up the phone, now!”
“Mrs. Thorpe, the emergency room door is shut tight. I can’t get in!” the subordinate said helplessly. “Initially, Mr. Thorpe had urgentpany matters to handle, but because of Carole, he put everything on hold.”
The implication was clear: Carole’s situation was so critical that even work had to take a back seat. How could he even think of interrupting the surgery?
Ellie’s stomach pain was intensifying, and cold sweat was now dripping down her face.
She took a deep breath, fighting back the bile rising in her throat. She ended the call and immediately pressed the bedside call button.
As she got out of bed, the pain in her abdomen made her double over, unable to stand up straight.
Ellie sensed something and reached beneath her nightgown.
The dampness made her heart race with fear.
“Mrs. Thorpe, you… Mrs. Thorpe! What’s wrong?”
Ellie’s pale, anguished expression terrified the servant. A thin streak of blood ran down her leg from beneath her nightgown.
