?Chapter 1031:
Even in the low light, Kaiden spotted Ellie sitting in a chair beside the bed.
He felt a rush of affection and went to kiss Ellie on the cheek.
“Why aren’t you asleep? Are you waiting for me?” he asked.
Ellie opened her eyes but stayed still, her hands resting on her pregnant belly, not responding.
Kaiden sensed her aloofness, and the warmth in his eyes dimmed.
“What’s the matter, hmm?” he asked.
He knelt beside Ellie, resting on one knee.
Ellie blinked and shifted her hand to the side.
Kaiden noticed a bowl of soup that had gonepletely cold, and his expression shifted subtly.
Ellie took a shallow breath and spoke. “I asked the maid who prepared the soup earlier, and she told me you instructed her to add vitamin tablets to it.”
“Yes, the doctor rmended folic acid and multivitamins,” Kaiden replied.
Ellie retrieved the bottle of medicine given by the maid.
She shook it gently. The pills could be heard rattling inside.
“Are these the medicines you talked about?” she asked.
Kaiden took the bottle, opened it, peered inside, and frowned.
After a moment, he decided to be honest. “Yes.”
He knew if he denied it, she would only investigate further.
“Are you certain it hasn’t been switched?” Ellie asked, hoping for a negative response.
Kaiden paused for a few moments without speaking.
He moved nearer to Ellie, gently sping her hand forfort. “Ellie, what are you trying to tell me?” His voice took on a deeper tone.
“This isn’t folic acid or multivitamins! Kaiden, this is medication called KY used for eye treatments!” Ellie eximed in frustration.

Her fingers involuntarily tightened around his hand before she quickly let go, realizing her grip.
“Kaiden, don’t you want to exin?” Ellie demanded.
The master bedroom, though sizable, couldn’t dispel the thick tension in the air.
“El, Carole had surgery, and this medicine helped her regain her eyesight,” Kaiden exined.
There was a loud crash as Ellie hurled the bowl to the floor, smashing it.
It was the first time Ellie had ever been so furious that she broke something.
“Kaiden, if I weren’t blind, I’d love to see your face right now!” she eximed.
“Stay away from me!” Ellie eximed, her chest rising and falling with suppressed anger and her hands shaking.
She shook her head in disbelief, as if unsure of the man standing before her.
“Kaiden, I’m pregnant with your child! How could you do this!” she cried out.
She felt she had nearly failed to protect their baby.
