?Chapter 1022:
“Yes,” Flossie replied. Her family had a long history of making fragrances.
Ellie took out a few books sealed in a clear bag and handed them to Flossie. “Take these back and check for me. See if there’s anything wrong with these books. But be careful.”
These were the books she used to read frequently before she lost her eyesightpletely. With her heightened sense of smell now, Ellie detected a faint fragrance on them. It was an unfamiliar scent.
Flossie ced them in her canvas bag. “Okay.”
Kaiden invited Flossie and Levy to stay for dinner, but most of the time, he was busy taking care of Ellie and asking her what she wanted to eat.
“Are you not going to attend to the guests?” Ellie whispered quietly as she pulled at his clothes.
Kaiden nced at Levy and replied in a voice loud enough for all to hear, “They can help themselves.”
Levy rolled his eyes. If they didn’t help themselves, should they just watch Kaiden and Ellie eat?
Seeing Kaiden take such good care of Ellie actually made Flossie very happy. Because Ellie couldn’t see well, Kaiden was asked to escort the guests out.
“Kaiden, it’s the first time I’ve had the honor of you seeing me off. Thanks to Ellie!” Levy said with a smile.
Kaiden lifted the corners of his mouth slightly, his silence an acquiescence to Levy’s words. He nced at Flossie. “Miss Yount, you cane by and keep Elliepany whenever you have time.”
“Sure!”
This was exactly what Flossie had hoped for. On the way back from Moon Manor, Flossie felt weighed down and gloomy. She was genuinely concerned about Ellie but felt powerless to do anything else.
“Ellie’s eyes…” Levy started.

“She’s temporarily blind,” Flossie exined. She wasn’t sure if Ellie could wait until after the baby was born to treat her eyes.
“How did this happen?” Levy asked in shock.
Flossie tightened her grip on her canvas bag and shook her head quietly. “I don’t know.”
She turned to Levy. “Ellie doesn’t want others to know about this right now. Did Mr. Thorpe tell you?”
Kaiden hadn’t mentioned anything. But Levy would not share such things with others, even without Kaiden’s request. That was their unspoken agreement.
Hearing Flossie’s serious question, Levy slowed the car down and nced at her.
“Flossie, does this make it our secret now?”
Flossie was momentarily thrown off by the yful smile in Levy’s eyes. She quickly lowered her gaze, pretended not to hear, and tried to appear calm and collected. But her heart was racing, as if it might burst out of her chest, making it impossible for her to stay calm.
The car came to a halt at the entrance to Flossie’s neighborhood. Flossie hurriedly expressed her gratitude to Levy and exited the vehicle. She moved swiftly, as if fleeing, her simple floral dress fluttering with each step.
Levy let out a sigh.
