?Chapter 1017:
They were used to seeing Kaiden’s wife in his office. They had identally observed their closeness even before their marital status had been disclosed, but this time felt different. It had a stronger impact.
For crying out loud, they couldn’t bring their spouses to work like Kaiden was doing, making it seem unfair to witness his closeness with his wife.
Ellie couldn’t see, and since the three executives hadn’t made any noise, she naturally didn’t know they were there.
Kaiden was about to discreetly ask them to leave without Ellie noticing. One of the executives asked, “Mr. Thorpe, should wee backter?”
Ellie was startled, not expecting others to be there.
“Wait in the next conference room,” Kaiden instructed.
The three executives nodded and quickly left.
Sometimes, an embrace or kiss doesn’t have as strong an impact. Instead, subtle and tenderfort can be more emotionally stirring. This was especially true in Kaiden’s case.
The three executives exchanged surprised looks. Was Kaiden always this affectionate and gentle with his wife?
“Your subordinates were in the office moments ago?” Ellie asked in disbelief.
“They were by the door, not inside,” Kaiden rified.
“Why didn’t you tell me? Kaiden, are you taking advantage of my blindness?” Ellie’s face reddened as she recalled their earlier interaction.
“You’re the rightful CEO’s wife. Who would dare make fun of you?” Kaiden smiled reassuringly. “They all have wives. They understand. Plus, we’re not doing anything inappropriate.”
Ellie sighed, covering her face with one hand and gesturing with the other. “Go have your meeting. Don’t keep them waiting.”
She didn’t want his subordinates to think they were up to anything improper. Married people tended to overthink things.
After finishing The Little Prince, Ellie’s bedtime story was now The Miracles of the Namiya General Store.

Ten minutes into Kaiden’s reading, Ellie suddenly opened her eyes and excitedly patted Kaiden, who was beside her. “The baby’s kicking,” Ellie announced, taking his hand and cing it on her belly.
But as soon as his hand settled there, the baby went still.
Ellie sat up, waiting a few moments, but there was no more movement.
Kaiden smiled helplessly. “Aren’t you sleepy?”
Ellie shook her head. The baby’s kicks hadpletely banished her sleepiness. Feeling the baby move was a new experience for her.
Since the baby remained still, Kaiden withdrew his hand.
“It’s moving.”
Ellie quickly guided his hand back. Kaiden was at a loss for words. He couldn’t feel anything.
Ellie withdrew his hand once more, and the baby gently stretched its body.
Ellie ced his hand back, and immediately, the baby settled down.
Kaiden observed how the baby responded differently to him and Ellie, darkening his expression.
