Chapter 1016

    ?Chapter 1016:

    Ellie straightened up.

Her eyes could no longer convey her emotions, but rinda noticed a clear shift in her demeanor.

Ellie wasn’t as friendly as before and seemed to hold some emotional resistance.

“Miss Hilton, you’ve never been pregnant or a mother. You probably don’t understand how crucial a child is to a mother,” Ellie remarked.

rinda frowned. “But your baby hasn’t been born yet. Is it really worth jeopardizing your health for an unborn child? Mrs. Thorpe, if I recall correctly, you’re only in your early twenties. You have a long life ahead of you.”

“You should ask your sister about this. For a mother, a child means everything,” Ellie replied. For her, it was worth the sacrifice. She had no second thoughts about her decision.

    rinda’s expression hardened.

Her sister would never be able to answer that question.

Leaving the CEO’s office, rinda hurried to the bathroom. She turned on the tap, sshed cold water on her face, and tried to steady her emotions.

After a while, she looked up, but her reflection still appeared very pale.

Resting her hands on the sink, she sighed deeply.

She never intended to hurt Ellie.

She had given Ellie a chance and even arranged for Carole to be Ellie’s test subject. Why was Ellie so stubborn?

Kaiden wrapped up his meeting and returned to his office. He found Ellie sitting up straight, her head lowered, cradling her pregnant belly.

Even though she couldn’t see, it was as if she were gazing at her belly.

    “Are you feeling unwell?”

Kaiden hurried over to her, squatting down and holding her hand anxiously.

Ellie lifted her head, offering a clear smile as she ced Kaiden’s hand on the right side of her belly.

“The baby moved. Can you feel it?” Her voice was sweet with joy.

If she weren’t feeling sick, her eyes would have sparkled with happiness, like stars in the night. But now, they were dull and lifeless.

Kaiden looked into Ellie’s eyes, feeling a lump rise in his throat.

    “No,” he replied.

Ellie didn’t notice his sadness. She frowned and touched her belly. “The baby stopped moving now,” she said, disappointed. “I’ll let you know next time.”

Kaiden rested his hand on the armrest beside her and kissed her eyes. “Okay.”

In truth, he wasn’t entirely thrilled by this ‘activity.’

Every time he thought about how Ellie refused to get her eyes checked because of the baby, his excitement for their unborn child waned.

Suddenly, Kaiden realized he had forgotten something.

Turning around, he saw three senior executives standing at the office door, staring in shock. When he looked at them, they quickly lowered their heads.

They hade to discuss project matters with Kaiden but had walked in on an intimate moment.
