?Chapter 1007:
Kaiden remained indifferent to Carole’s opinion of him.
Carole stood up and sat back down, fixing her hair to look less disheveled. “You treat my eyes first, and I’ll tell you who drove Leo to suicide.”
“What happened to your eyes?” Kaiden asked bluntly.
“I’m not sure. It started with a burning feeling in my eyes. I thought it was just eye strain and didn’t think much of it. Buttely, I’ve been having bouts of temporary blindness. I went to the hospital once, and the doctor found nothing wrong. But sincest night, I haven’t been able to see at all.”
If Carole could see Kaiden’s face, she would see the usually calm and reserved man disying his emotions openly.
The progression of Carole’s eye condition mirrored Ellie’s exactly.
Kaiden felt a sharp chill of fear.
He was afraid something might happen to Ellie.
“Who took you to the doctor? Which hospital? Where’s the medical report?” Kaiden fired off a series of questions, and Carole’s lips curled into a smile.
“Kaiden, are you worried about me?”
“Answer me.”
Kaiden’s voice was cold, tinged with anger—so it wasn’t concern for her.
Carole’s smile faded. She turned towards Kaiden’s voice, though her aim was off, facing the wall with a bitter sneer on her face.
When she first arrived at the psychiatric hospital, she wasn’t insane.
But after a month in this ce, even Carole felt she was no longer herself.
Her heart twisted.
Or perhaps it had twisted long ago, due to Kaiden’s repeated coldness and the hurt he caused. Carole chuckled. “How would I, being blind, know which hospital I went to? I have a mental illness. Why would they give me the report? So, I don’t know.”
Initially, she had wanted to tell Kaiden that the person who brought her there used his name.

But why bother telling him?
It wouldn’t benefit her.
“How can you guarantee that once I cure your eyes, you won’t y any tricks?” Kaiden questioned.
“Kaiden, you’re so suspicious of me now?” Carole sighed, looking wounded. Kaiden grimaced in disdain.
“Despite how cold you’ve been to me, I still trust you,” Carole said, feeling better. “Once my eyes start getting better, I’ll tell you everything. If I break my promise, you can stop my treatment.”
“Someone wille get you for a checkup tomorrow.”
Even without Carole asking, Kaiden would ensure she went for her checkup. Because Carole’s condition mirrored Ellie’s too closely, he couldn’t risk Ellie’s safety.
Moon Manor sat halfway up a mountain, surrounded by water. Even in midsummer, it maintained a refreshing coolness.
In the distance, Kaiden spotted a woman resting on a sofa in the yard. Her swollen belly prevented her from curling up as she once did, so shey with her legs propped up, dozing.
