Chapter 1006

    ?Chapter 1006:

Attached was a photo taken by Harry’s informant near the hospital.

Staring at the photo and recalling the signature record and her days of uncertainty, Ellie could only describe herself with one word: absurd.

She tried every possible excuse for Kaiden. She wanted to trust him, but what was going on? Reality hit her hard.

“Mrs. Thorpe, are you alright?” A servant, noticing Ellie stumbling, was taken aback.

“Yes,” Ellie replied, waving her hand and sitting down on the sofa with the servant’s assistance.

She gently stroked her visibly pregnant belly. Her heart felt constricted, as if squeezed by a giant hand, making it difficult to breathe.

She had previously resisted bing pregnant, fearing that her strained rtionship with Kaiden would deprive the child of a stable family. Yet now, this was the inevitable result?

No matter how well the psychiatric hospital was built, it always felt gloomy and deserted. Along the way, several disturbed patients could be seen outside with their caregivers. Some patients even fought like children. The staff were used to such scenes and led Kaiden to a room.

“Mr. Thorpe, Carole is inside. If you need anything, press the rm in the room, and we’lle right away.”

    “Got it.”

The staff left the room and met a colleague.

“The ID of the man just now said Kaiden Thorpe, but he doesn’t seem like the Kaiden Thorpe who came here before.”

“Is that so? Last time he had sunsses and a hat on, so we couldn’t see his face clearly. They’re about the same height.”

Carole sat in a trance by the window. Sunlight used to stream in, making it the brightest spot, but now it waspletely dark.

She heard the door open and someone enter, but she didn’t react until the man’s voice broke the silence.

    “Carole.”

    “Kaiden!”

Carole turned around in surprise, but her eyes, though wide open, were empty and still.

She felt an urge to run to Kaiden. In this world of darkness, she felt vulnerable and longed for his embrace. But as she moved, her thigh banged against the bed’s edge with a thud.

She copsed onto the floor in a heap. Her knee scraped, and fresh blood seeped from the wound.

Caroley on the floor, feeling helpless and unsure of Kaiden’s whereabouts. She kept calling out, “Kaiden, help me up.”

Kaiden stood by the door, unmoved and distant.

“Carole, our deal is simple: you tell me the truth about my brother’s death, and I’ll treat your eyes.”

Helping her up wasn’t part of the deal.

Carole was silent for a few moments, making sure she hadn’t misunderstood. Her expression turned icy immediately.

Her sightless eyes couldn’t betray her anger. Through clenched teeth, she spoke. “Kaiden, you’re truly heartless.”
