?Chapter 1004:
What she meant was that she hadn’t asked Levy for help, and she felt he was intruding.
“But thanks anyway,” Flossie added.
Levy remained silent for a moment before suggesting, “How about inviting me in for dinner as thanks?”
Flossie shook her head. “Tonight, Ellie is footing the bill. I’m not in charge, so it’s not up to me.”
Levy and Kaiden were friends. Levy had hung out with Ellie enough times that it wouldn’t have been strange for him to join them. But Flossie’s words were a polite way of saying no.
Her rejections were always polite and proper, with no room for negotiation. Coal Ball had settled down as soon as Flossie appeared but still eyed Levy cautiously.
Levy got up and stared at Flossie for a moment.
Suddenly, he asked, “Flossie, are you avoiding me on purpose?”
Flossie stood motionless. The surroundings seemed to quiet down instantly. She panicked, her breathing quickened. She looked at Levy with her light brown eyes, her lips slightly parted, but she didn’t say a word.
“Flossie.” Ellie came out, unsurprised to see Levy. “Levy, you’re here too.”
“Ellie.” Levy nodded politely. “I just happened to be passing by.”
“Oh, since you’re just passing by, I won’t invite you in for dinner, so I won’t keep you,” Ellie said.
Levy was momentarily at a loss for words. He knew Ellie was trying to keep him at a distance from Flossie.
“Levy, thanks for today. I’m heading in for dinner now,” Flossie said, linking arms with Ellie, inwardly grateful for Ellie’s intervention that saved her from responding to Levy’s question.
As they entered the restaurant, Ellie felt the cold sweat on Flossie’s palm.
“Feeling nervous?” Ellie inquired.
Flossie rubbed her palms together. “I’m okay now. It’s just… I don’t get Levy.”

Ellie thought to herself, “Isn’t it normal not to get him? If you could understand Levy, wouldn’t all his ex-girlfriends have seeded? If you could understand Levy, would you still be here with me, talking about this?”
Dinner continued until eight o’clock. Ellie returned home and finished washing up by nearly ten.
There were several missed calls from Kaiden on her phone. Her mood soured when she saw his name.
After a while, Kaiden video-called her again.
“I was just finishing up in the bathroom,” Ellie exined, trying to sound casual.
“You went to the hospital again today? Are you feeling okay?” Kaiden asked with a frown.
“It was just my recurring eye issues, but the doctor didn’t detect any problems,” Ellie said, studying Kaiden on the screen for any subtle emotional cues. She then asked, “Are you still in Warles, Kaiden?”
Kaiden chuckled. “Do you miss me? I’ll be back the night after tomorrow.” He wanted to return, but work couldn’t wait.
“I’m too tired to hear you read tonight. I just want to sleep,” Ellie mumbled, burying her face in the nket.
