?Chapter 985:
The woman Marvin cared so much abouty unconscious on the sofa. Baylee’s cheeks were rosy, and her sleeping visage was serene, as if all her worries had vanished.
Marvin quietly settled on the floor beside the sofa. He silently observed her peaceful sleeping face. She shifted unconsciously as a wisp of hair touched her cheek. Marvin gently brushed it away.
He couldn’t resist and gently ran his finger across her face. Baylee seemed to sense his touch, and her eyshes fluttered. Marvin hastily pulled back his hand as if jolted, nervously observing Baylee, his heart racing.
He wished she would wake up and notice him, yet feared she might chase him away.
He watched her intently for a moment. Then he went to the kitchen and brewed a cup of honey water for Baylee to have when she woke up. Honey water was good for hangovers, and she enjoyed its sweetness.
Returning to the living room with the honey water, Marvin froze in his tracks. Baylee, who had been lying on the sofa, now sat up and red coldly at him. Her eyes retained a hint of drunkenness, yet they clearly showed her disdain for him.
“Would you like some water?” Marvin asked, approaching Baylee with the honey water.
She stared at him, refusing the cup and remaining silent, her eyes conveying a message for him to leave.
Marvin knelt before her.
“Baylee, whatever upsets you, I can rify. Whatever displeases you about me, I’m willing to change.”
He was earnestly trying to get her to calm down, hoping she would take back the words about breaking up. He had been hurt by her words earlier in the day, but he still cared about her well-being. What did his pride matter if it got bruised? It could always be mended.
“No,” Baylee replied calmly. “There is no need for you to change. I just don’t want to be with you anymore. That’s all.”
“You said you wouldn’t go to the Hills’ house. Why did you suddenly go today?” Marvin asked calmly.
“If I hadn’t gone, would I have heard what you said?”
???? ??????? ?? ?????????.???
“Baylee, those words didn’t reflect my true feelings.”
“Do the words you’re saying now reflect your true feelings?” Baylee sat upright, casting a sneer at him. “Marvin, you have never been honest with me.” He had deceived her numerous times. His feelings for her had been insincere from the beginning.
He had shown up with severe injuries, stayed at her ce to recover, andter persisted in professing his love. It had all been a facade. Baylee had never thought she would fall for sweet words. She felt like a fool in love.
Marvin reached for Baylee’s hand, but she pulled away without hesitation.
He sighed. “I didn’t deceive you, Baylee.”
Baylee shut her eyes and massaged her temples. She had a pounding headache from drinking too much. She didn’t want to strain herself to think straight, let alone see Marvin again.
“When you stayed over, did you put sleeping pills in the milk you gave me at night?” Baylee asked.
Marvin hesitated for a brief moment. He considered denying it, but recalling her aversion to lies, he nodded truthfully. “Yes.”
“Marvin, you’re something else! Your deceit isn’t just in words but also in actions.”
