Chapter 984

    ?Chapter 984:

“I’m not in a good mood either,” Kaiden replied, annoyed that his wife was prioritizing her friend over him.

“After Baylee’s breakup, she lost her boyfriend and is left with only me by her side. But you’ve still got me!” Ellie pointed at herself. Her gesture made it clear to Kaiden that his wife was right there.

His bad mood was not a big concern.

Kaiden reluctantly gave in and arranged for the bodyguards to drive Ellie and Baylee away. He didn’t want Ellie riding in Baylee’s car, given Baylee’s current state.

As soon as Baylee got home, she reached for the wine. She poured various high-end bottles down her throat like they were water. Between swigs, Baylee berated herself, “You are such a wuss! Drinking because of a man, Baylee!”

Ellie tried to grab a bottle of white wine, but Baylee intervened immediately. “You can’t drink now that you’re pregnant.” Baylee was already a little tipsy when she said this with earnestness.

“I’ll pour it for you. I won’t drink,” Ellie replied. She echoed Baylee’s words, “I’m pregnant, so I can’t drink now. I know that.”

Baylee nced at Ellie’s swollen belly and nodded seriously. “Yes, you should take good care of my future godson. He will grow up to be a good man.” Ellie thought to herself that if Kaiden were here, he’d probably debate with Baylee about the term “godson.” Even though Baylee could handle her alcohol well, mixing different drinks without control was beyond her.

Ellie draped a nket over the sofa where Baylee, now drunk and sprawled out,y.

“El, I promised… to take you home.”

Who had she made that promise to? Baylee squeezed Ellie’s hand, her brow furrowing as she tried to recollect. Yet, she drew a nk.

“Kaiden had arranged for bodyguards to wait downstairs. They’ll take me home,” Ellie reassured Baylee, giving her aforting pat. “Baylee, just get some rest.” Ellie hoped Baylee wouldn’t feel down once she was sober.

Baylee’s tipsy antics were typical. She usually slept off her drinks in three or four hours, so there was little cause for worry.

When Ellie reached the bottom of the stairs, the bodyguards approached and escorted her to the car. Just before getting into the car, Ellie nced around. Was it just her imagination? She had a feeling someone was keeping an eye on her nearby.

Once Ellie’s car departed, Marvin came out of hiding. He gazed up at the top floor of the small vi.

A light was shining in the living room. It was Baylee’s home.

Unsure of how Baylee was doing, Marvin stayed downstairs, staring up for an hour. Throughout this period, the living room stayed lit, but the bedroom lights remained off. Baylee had a fear of darkness and was used to keeping all the lights on in the house. The current situation went against her usual habit.

Marvin rode the elevator up and knocked on the door first. There was no response.

Next, he activated the fingerprint lock.

Beep! It still epted his fingerprint. She hadn’t altered it.

When the door swung open, a strong odor of alcohol greeted him. Different alcohol aromas mingled together. Empty wine bottles were stacked in the corner bin, and some half-full ones were strategically ced out of easy reach. It was unmistakably Ellie’s doing.
