    “Really? So you haven’t been in contact with any of the Thorpe family’s rtives, and you’re not interested in Erick. Then how do you expect to be part of the Thorpe family?” A faint smile yed on Katharine’s lips, her cold, beautiful eyes holding a hint of menace. “Are you interested in married men?”


    The tension in the room resurfaced instantly.


    Hearing this, Carole felt the weight of everyone’s stares. They all knew who she was aiming to marry. But Katharine had exposed her intentions, forcing Carole to deny them in person.


    “No, I am not,” Carole smiled awkwardly.


    “That’s reassuring,” Katharine replied. “Every member of our family has been brought up well, with good education. We’ve cared for you for over ten years. I don’t want to see you led astray.”


    Ellie remained silent as she listened to their exchange. She hadn’t even had a chance to speak. It felt reassuring to have Katharine speak up for her.


    “Since you’re here representing Jorge, you can do as you please,” Katharine told Carole. Then she turned to Ellie and added, “Ellie, why don’t you sit over there? Standing for too long can tire a pregnant woman.”
