?Chapter 925:
When Kaiden returned, Ellie had already made her way through half of the book she was holding.
She sat with her slender legs tucked under her on the sofa, leaning against the cushions, slowly drifting off to sleep. The book she was reading almost slipped from her hands.
The sight was so captivating that it was impossible to look away.
“Mr. Thorpe, Erick came earlier, but we turned him away,” Ellie’s guard whispered.
Kaiden nodded, asking, “Was he looking for my wife?”
“She didn’t even see him.”
Kaiden was pleased with the response.
He gently removed the book from Ellie’s hand and cradled her in his arms. Ellie stirred in his embrace, blinking her sleepy eyes before she closed them again, resting against his chest.
“Good evening,” she murmured softly, her voice full of sleep. “I’m so tired…”
“Go ahead and sleep,” Kaiden whispered, his voice low andforting.
He carried her effortlessly, his steps steady as he moved through the house. After a few moments, the elderly butler appeared.
“Mr. Thorpe, your mother is scheduled for surgery tomorrow. Will you be staying with her? Your father has prepared a room for you and your wife—the master bedroom on the second floor.”
“Move aside,” Kaiden said impatiently.
The butler stepped aside without hesitation, his disapproving gaze lingering on Ellie, who was too exhausted to walk and had to be carried. Still, knowing the depth of Kaiden’s affection for her, the butler chose not to argue further.
The car was waiting outside.
Kaiden gently ced Ellie in the back seat, and she immediately woke up.

“Aren’t you going to sleep?” he asked, caressing her face.
She gazed unhappily towards the direction of the house and remarked, “I’m awake already. I was just pretending to be asleep.”
“I figured,” he replied, his tone affectionate.
They had shared a bed for a year, so Kaiden knew Ellie woke up as soon as the elderly butler spoke.
Maybe she was annoyed by Jorge giving her the bracelet, so she had intentionally shown it to the elderly butler to provoke him.
Such haughty behavior might irritate others if disyed by different women, but with Ellie, it only made Kaiden find her charming and at ease. He enjoyed Ellie relying on him and her spirited ways.
“But there’s something I can’t figure out,” Ellie remarked. “Now that I have the Lambert family backing me, anyone who cooperates with me cooperates with them. So why does your father still want to undermine—”
“Jorge won’t be around much longer,” Kaiden exined. “Money isn’t his top concern. Houston is driven by greed. But for Jorge, dignity and his own pride matter most.”
