Chapter 850

    ?Chapter 850:

Carole’s actions were a puzzle. Her failure to swerve and instead blocking Baylee seemedden with intent. Yet, her final act undeniably saved Ellie. Overwhelmed, Ellie hid her face behind her hands.

The true motives of Carole, known only to her, were shrouded in secrecy. But Ellie knew well that Carole would use her brave act to gain leverage. “Value your life, miss. It’s the one thing truly yours.”

Upon Kaiden’s entrance, he overheard the nurse gently admonishing Carole. Carole, under the lingering influence of anesthesia, was in the midst of a tantrum. Yet the sight of Kaiden was like a balm, bringing her a sudden peace.

“Kaiden…” Carole’s words trailed off as tears streamed down her face. She was suffering from broken bones and scorched skin due to the cruel kiss of the car’s explosion.

“Cooperate with the doctor,” Kaiden urged, his words a quietmand in the charged air. “How is Ellie faring?” Carole’s question dripped with feigned concern. “When I emerged from the wreckage, I saw her escape the car. Little did I know, the life I was saving was that of your wife.”

Her words aimed for Kaiden’s soft spots like daggers.

    “She’s alright,” Kaiden replied.

“That’s good!” A grin spread across Carole’s face at his words, a release of tension. Unseen to her, Kaiden’s eyes held a storm of questions.

“So, you had no idea who was in the ident? What drove you to risk your safety?” His suspiciony veiled.

“I aimed to do some good in the chaos. I knew I had made mistakes in the past with Miss Curtis and Ellie. Well, I never expected to be the one rescuing Ellie today.”

Silence was Kaiden’s only response. Her exnation seemed airtight, beyond reproach. Fragilityced Carole’s next words. “Kaiden, are my hands unscathed? My legs, are they whole? Tell me, is my face marred?”

Though Carole seemed pitiable, she was well aware her beauty remained unmarred. She had shielded her face first amidst the cmity.

“Miss, your body is intact, and your beauty unmarred,” the nurse reassured. “Rest will be your best medicine. The burns will heal in time.”
