?Chapter 848:
His embrace was almost suffocating, as if he wished to meld their bodies into one. Though Ellie felt a twinge of difort, it brought her a sense of reassurance. Trembling, Ellie lifted her hands and enveloped Kaiden in her embrace, burying her face against his chest.
Tears soaked through the fabric of his shirt.
“I’m alright,” Ellie whispered.
After a while, Ellie finally found her voice. “Kaiden, the baby is fine too. We’re both okay.”
Just then, Kaiden’s phone rang. But he remained unmoved, unaffected by the interruption.
“You have a phone call,” Ellie reminded him.
Kaiden nced at his phone to see an unknown number shing on the screen. Answering the call, he kept his gaze fixed on Ellie.
“Hello, is this Mr. Kaiden Thorpe? Are you a rtive of Carole? We found your contact information in her phone,” the nurse informed him.
“Yes, I am Kaiden.”
“There’s been a car ident. Pleasee to the hospital,” the nurse stated, naming the hospital.
It was the same hospital they were in now.
In an instant, the warmth and tranquility surrounding them seemed to shatter, as fragile as bubbles breaking apart.
The hospital was calling Kaiden, signaling that Carole was in grave danger. Ellie was forced to confront the harsh reality. Carole had alsoe to her rescue.
“You… you should go check on her,” Ellie instructed with difficulty as she released Kaiden’s hand. “She got involved because of me.”
Releasing Ellie, Kaiden gently cupped her face and nted a kiss on her forehead.

Ellie’s heart ached.
She had anticipated him leaving, but instead, hemanded, “Bruce, go find out what’s happening with Carole.”
“Why were you with Kristopher again?” Kaiden’s voice was soft as he offered support, gently easing Ellie into the chair.
She nced up at him, relieved to see no anger in his eyes. Given the circumstances, anger would have been out of ce.
Ellie shared the heavy words Kristopher had burdened her with.
Kaiden’s brow creased with concern. Without hesitation, he dialed Glenn’s number. “The Lamberts have held a grudge against Kristopher’s family for years, haven’t they?”
There was a pause before Glenn’s voice came through, tinged with uncertainty. “I can’t seem to recall.”
Glenn had been just a child two decades ago. But hisck of recollection regarding the grudge between their families didn’t mean the past had been erased.
Kaiden stared at the ominous red glow above the operating room, wrestling with unease. Kristopher’s actions—risking his own life to protect Ellie—showed Kaiden just how deep Kristopher’s feelings for her were.
