Chapter 844

    ?Chapter 844:

Why did he masquerade as a virtuous person? She had nearly ced her trust in him, considering him a genuine friend.

“El, please, calm yourself,” Kristopher urged. “It’s not healthy for pregnant women to be agitated.”

“So, you know I am pregnant?” Ellie was taken aback by his words.

He had refrained from exposing her lie the day before.

Noticing the change in the way Kristopher addressed her, Ellie didn’t bother to correct him now.

“El, the Lambert family and my family harbored unresolved grudges. Seeking revenge, my father bribed a servant to remove you from their household when you were still an infant. I never anticipated that you would inadvertently be a member of the Gordon family. I entered your life initially out of mere curiosity. It wasn’t out of benevolence that I asked Cecelia to look after you.”

Though Kristopher’s words were veiled, Ellie understood their implication.

“It wasn’t out of benevolence, huh? It was simr to raising a small animal. If the animal perishes, it can no longer be observed, correct?” Ellie’s voice turned cold and ironic.

    “Yes.”

She hoped for a denial, yet Kristopher simply nodded in agreement, his expression unchanged, as though discussing a matter of indifference. The scene brought back memories of the rainy night outside the amusement park.

Kristopher had offered her a dagger, coaxing her into epting it. Did he desire her descent into moral degradation?

It dawned on Ellie that even the fleeting kindness she remembered from her childhood was merely an illusion.

The absurdity of the situation pierced her heart.

“Why? Why do you still appear in my life?” she questioned, her voiceced with a mix of confusion and pain.

Meanwhile, the bodyguard, stationed in the front passenger seat, kept a watchful eye on the pair in the back through the rearview mirror.

Though unable to hear their conversation due to the earplugs, he observed Kristopher’s intense and unwavering gaze towards Ellie, a gaze that seemed both fixated and stubborn, sending a shiver down his spine.

However, in the blink of an eye, the intensity in Kristopher’s eyes vanished, leaving no trace.

The bodyguard wondered if he was seeing things.

“It’s perhaps… a habit?” Kristopher responded, his tone seemingly detached. “After all these years and everything that has happened, I believe we’re even now.”

“Then why approach me today?” Ellie pressed.

“My father doesn’t share the same opinions as I do,” Kristopher rified. “Just be careful…”
