?Chapter 767:
Carole’s demand caught Ellie off guard, although part of her had somehow expected it. Along with the anger bubbling inside her, Ellie found the situation absurdlyughable. She hissed, “Carole, are you seriously allowing others to nder Kaiden? After all these years of your so-called friendship, how can you stand by while he’s in trouble?”
“I only look out for my own man,” Carole replied with a chuckle, “I wouldn’t care about Kaiden if he remains your partner. Ellie, if you truly love him, shouldn’t you be willing to make sacrifices for him?”
“That’s wishful thinking!” Ellie snapped, her anger surging before she abruptly ended the call.
When Kaiden returned home, he found Ellie sitting on the sofa, her face a mask of cold fury, a stark contrast to the intense anger she was feeling inside.
“What’s the matter?” Kaiden inquired as he fetched the medicine.
He had consulted a pharmacist about its proper use, double-checked the instructions, and gently warmed the liquid in his palms before applying it to Ellie’s ankle.
“I received a distressing call,” Ellie replied, her mood visibly soured.
Kaiden, about to touch her face, hesitated as he remembered his hands were covered in medicine. He refrained, sensing that Ellie wasn’t in the mood to share more.
As Kaiden carefully massaged the medicine into her ankle, Ellie felt a heavy weight settle on her chest, making it hard to breathe.
There was evidence out there, but it was out of reach, and certainly not something she could use to her advantage.
If Kaiden were ever to leave her over something like this, Ellie realized, she wouldn’t want him to stay under such circumstances anyway.
Matters of the heart shouldn’t be treated like business deals; it was foolish to even think that way.
“This will blow over in a few days; don’t dwell on it too much,” Kaiden reassured her after washing his hands. “If you’re feeling restless, you can invite your friends over to the manor.”
???????? ?????????????? ???? ??????????????????.??????
Ellie couldn’t venture out much anyway, wary of potential confrontations.
“Okay,” Ellie nodded in agreement.
In Livbon
Carole angrily hurled her phone to the floor, her eyes zing with fury.
Why would Ellie refuse? And Kaiden too!
Carole was furious that, despite knowing her close rtionship and multiple private meetings with Leo, Kaiden hadn’te to her with any inquiries about Leo’s mysterious death. She was convinced that Kaiden had realized she knew something about the truth. Yet, he hadn’t made any effort to reach out to her. He didn’t even seem interested in calling her!
Carole red at the psychological report she had retrieved from the safe, momentarily tempted to tear it up. The report bluntly stated: “Leo Thorpe: severe depression.”
