    “Should I ask Edwin to check on you?”


    “No,” Ellie replied, still staring at the wall. “I was thinking about buying emergency contraception.”


    “Ellie,” Kaiden called out in exasperation.


    Ellie heard a woman’s voice speaking to Kaiden on the other end.


    Her expression hardened, and her voice turned icy. “Are you with Carole?” The phone camera finally adjusted, revealing a strand of long, feminine hair entering the frame first.


    As Ellie was about to end the call, a woman’s face appeared.


    “Miss Gordon, hello! I’m Joselyn, nice to meet you!” the woman greeted brightly.


    The woman appeared to be in her thirties, with delicate features and long, curly ck hair. She exuded an air of calm elegance.


    Ellie’s initial look of disgust remained etched on her face, frozen in time.


    “Did you think Kaiden came to visit Miss Lambert?” Joselyn said with a teasing, warm smile.


    “Um… sorry, I didn’t realize it was you…” Ellie stammered, her ears burning with embarrassment. She wished the ground would swallow her whole. Joselyn adjusted the phone angle, revealing Kaiden standing a step behind her, a smile ying on his lips.

    Ellie was so annoyed that her teeth were gritted.


    “It’s no problem,” Joselyn responded lightly. “I’m a professor at the University of Livbon, and resigning is quite a hassle. I needed Kaiden’s help.”


    “Ms. Thorpe, I apologize. I truly didn’t know it was you…”


    Unfazed by the awkward situation, Joselyn handed the phone back to Kaiden. The more confidently Ellie had approached Kaiden initially, the more embarrassed and annoyed she felt now.
