    She saw his eyes darken. His excitement was clear from the subtle ways his body reacted. Kaiden chuckled, his voice raspy as he said, “Are you trying to spoil me, baby? I must be dreaming.”


    Jorge still hadn’t woken up, and since Talon refused to hand the power over to Kaiden, Thorpe Group found itself at a stalemate.


    Kaiden was letting the board of directors bicker among themselves and went about his days as he usually did, as if nothing monumental had happened within the Thorpe family. But Ellie knew that no matter how powerful or cold he appeared on the surface, the recent events had an impact on him.


    “You wish,” she retorted, raising her chin defiantly at him. “You only get one chance tonight.”


    “All right.” Kaiden smiled and pecked her lips. “Remember, you’re the one who asked for it.”

    She had no idea what those simple words did to him.

    Ellie was so exhausted that she dozed in his arms as he held her up under the shower.


    When she woke up the following day, the other side of the bed was empty. A note was sitting on the nightstand, written in very stern and familiar penmanship.


    “Good afternoon. I’ve left for the airport. I will see you the day after tomorrow.”

    Ellie nced at her phone. It was five minutes to twelve. Technically, it was indeed the afternoon.


    It was all that rascal’s fault! Kaiden hadn’t let her sleep until the early hours of dawn.

    Ellie rolled in bed for a few more minutes before plodding to the bathroom to freshen up.


    All she had on was a thin slip dress, most of her skin exposed. As expected, her neck and arms were peppered with hickeys.


    She ran a hand over her face and groaned as scenes from the previous night shed in her mind.


    But when she finally looked at her reflection in the mirror, there was a small smile dancing on her lips.


    “Oh, my God! Are you out of your mind, Ellie? I can’t believe you were so reckless!” She let out a long, drawn-out sigh.


    She had to admit that she had been bewitched by Kaiden’s sweet words, what with him wanting a baby with her and all that jazz.


    Ellie knew that once they had a baby, the ns she had mapped out for herself would have to be thrown out the window.


    She finished washing up then checked her phone for messages.
