    Helpless, Ellie cast him a pleading gaze. “Please, not now. It’s Susanna.”


    Impatience flickered across Kaiden’s features as he idly fiddled with Ellie’s hair, his frustration palpable.


    “Hello, Susanna,” Ellie greeted, her tone strained with tension.


    “Ellie, I heard you and Mr. Thorpe attended a school performance today! Would you care to join us for ate-night snack?” Susanna’s tone was unusually cheerful as she remarked, “Daniel mentioned he’s treating!”


    She remained unaware that Ellie and Kaiden had departed the event early to avoid congestion.


    Kaiden’s expression darkened instantly.


    “Daniel?!”


    “Tell her we’re already indulging in ate-night snack,” Kaiden gruffly muttered.


    “Tell her not to disturb us.”


    “We are not…” Ellie began to protest but swiftly grasped the implication behind his mention of a te-night snack,” prompting her abrupt silence. With flushed cheeks, she shot Kaiden a scathing re.


    “We’ve already returned home; perhaps another time?” Ellie’s voice quivered with guilt.


    “Then another time it is!”


    Susanna ended the call, turning her attention to the man beside her.

    “Why do you suddenly seem so annoyed?” Susanna asked, puzzled.
