Chapter 669

    ?Chapter 669:

He was so tall that Ellie had to stand on a stool to reach him. She couldn’t stop smiling, her heart racing wildly.

The peaceful silence in the room was broken by a sudden knock at the door.

Ellie turned off the dryer and set it down. Kaiden gently lifted her off the stool before walking toward the door. When he opened it, he was met with Garfield standing on the other side.

“Miss, Katharine from the Lambert family is here,” Garfield announced.

Carole had stayed up most of the night, anxiously awaiting news that Ellie’s reputation had been destroyed. But when she woke up the next morning, she was shocked to find that public opinion had shiftedpletely.

Netizens were now fawning over Ellie and Kaiden. Someone even mentioned that Ellie was a strong, beautiful woman with a tragic past.

Carole knew that Demi had told the truth. This included the marriage alliances between the Gordon and Thorpe families, as well as the one between the Thorpe and Lambert families. Yet, these young, wealthy men were spewing nonsense. Why were so many people helping Ellie spread lies? Why was no oneing forward to reveal the truth?

Carole’s anger boiled over. She swept everything off her dresser in a fit of rage, sending items crashing to the floor. In the process, a perfume bottle shattered into pieces. She stood in the middle of the room, her chest heaving with frustration.

Then, suddenly, there was a knock on the door.

Carole took a deep breath, quicklyposing herself before opening it.

It was a crew member standing outside. “I just came to inform you that Katharine is at the dock. Do you want to go there?” he asked.

“My sister is here?” Carole asked in surprise. The news brought a glimmer of hope, and her eyes lit up with joy. Now, she would have someone to support her.

Without wasting any time, she rushed to change into something more presentable. When she finally stepped outside, the first person she encountered was Darrell, who had alsoe to see Katharine. Katharine was the sponsor, so the crew was notifying everyone of her arrival.

“Mr. Vargas, Miss Gordon’s issue won’t cause any significant impact. You don’t have to worry about it,” Carole said, trying to reassure Darrell with a positive tone.

Darrell felt a chill run down his spine. If he hadn’t thought deeply about it for so long and be 100% sure that only Carole had the chance to get those photos, he would have easily been deceived by her. He would never have believed that she was the one orchestrating all these maniptions behind the scenes. But now that he knew she was the one responsible, he felt disgusted by her pretense of innocence.

“Mr. Vargas, why are you looking at me like that?” Carole asked in surprise. She could feel that the way Darrell was looking at her had changed; it was no longer filled with the same enthusiasm and admiration as before. This shift made her feel uneasy.

“No, no… it’s nothing,” Darrell quickly assured her, turning his face away. He was thinking that his affection for her had been in vain.

Ever since Baylee’s visit, Darrell had been questioning why he had protected Carole so much. He had spent the whole night thinking about it, and after much deliberation, he came to the conclusion that he did have feelings for her. But now, knowing her true nature, he couldn’t bring himself to expose her wrongdoings to the public. He couldn’t help but consider himself insane for blindly defending her all this time.
