?Chapter 561:
At the far end of the second floor, separated by soundproof ss, a calm retreat awaited.
“Kaiden, about that day in the hospital… I’m sorry. I let my emotions get the best of me. I’ve realized it was my fault,” Carole said, her head bowed in guilt and regret.
Kaiden simply hummed, showing little reaction. In fact, he hadpletely forgotten about their hospital incident. His thoughts had never really lingered on Carole.
“Later on, Jorge and Brisa suggested I should join Thorpe’s jewelrypany as the head designer…” Carole nced at Kaiden cautiously. Though the idea hade from Jorge, Carole was careful to mention Brisa, aware of her importance to Kaiden.
“If that’s what you want,” Kaiden replied unbothered.
The Thorpepany had nothing to do with him.
Moreover, Carole wasn’t his woman. He simply didn’t care.
Carole let out a sigh of relief. When Kaiden didn’t catch her intention, he asked, “Did youe to join in some fun?”
It was doubtful Jerome had invited Carole over at this time.
“I… heard Daniel was here, so I thought I’d drop by, but…” Carole paused. “I’m worried your wife might not be keen on seeing me, considering our past. She might have gotten the wrong idea about me.”
Carole deliberately said this to appear pitiful, hoping Kaiden would reassure her that Ellie didn’t think badly of her and invite her to join the party.
The event was meant to celebrate Kaiden and Ellie’s wedding. If Carole showed up, it could spark wild spection about their old “love triangle” among their peers, who were more cunning than a swarm of hos.
To her surprise, Kaiden’s response was straightforward.
“You’re right. It wouldn’t be right for you toe in.”
Carole, taken aback, stared at Kaiden with a mixture of surprise and confusion. However, Kaiden had no intention of exining further. His words were as clear as they were direct.
Regret washed over Carole. Had she known earlier, she wouldn’t have resorted to such tactics, effectively setting a trap for herself.
“Kaiden, this is my wedding gift to you. It’s a bitte, but I hope you’ll appreciate it. I apologize for any inconvenience I may have caused you and your wife,” Carole said, skillfully changing the subject. She produced a neatly wrapped gift box from her bag.
The box was small, fittingfortably in the palm of her hand, adorned with tiny blue and red gems.
“Thank you,” Kaiden replied as he epted the gift. The mention of it being a wedding gift made it difficult to refuse.
“There seems to be something in your hair…” Carole suddenly reached out towards Kaiden’s hair, as if to remove something.
To an onlooker, their interaction might have appeared intimate.
