?Chapter 538:
Nheless, she had no feelings for him. Love doesn’t heed logic.
Ellie remained skeptical. “Carole, do you see yourself as willingly being the other woman?”
“Are you suggesting Ick self-respect?” Carole retorted, flipping her hair with a dismissiveugh. “What does self-respect matter against love? Sure, Kaiden chose you this time because you’re his wife. He feels obligated, and perhaps you’re a novelty to him. But can you be so certain he’ll always pick you over me?”
Arguing with Carole, who had stooped so low as to willingly be the other woman, was challenging!
Ellie was about to respond when she received a message from Edwin.
Edwin’s message read: “At the Hagua auction, every piece managed by Baylee failed to sell in the first half!”
No sales? Not a single item was sold?!
Ellie’s expression turned serious as she quickly dialed Edwin’s number. “Is that urate? How did you find out? Why would that happen?”
“I’m here in Hagua for work and heard it through the grapevine… It seems Quincy was actively blocking the bids from others,” Edwin exined.
Influenced by Ellie, he had been keeping a close eye on Baylee’s activities. If the items didn’t sell, they might be re-auctioned at a fixed price, impacting buyers minimally. But for an auctioneer like Baylee, such a failure was a serious blow to their reputation.
“Quincy was there?” Ellie’s frown deepened. She was dismayed by the idea of Quincy deliberately undermining Baylee at the auction.
“Aphrodite was there as well,” Edwin added.
Damn it! Ellie was seething.
She inquired, “When’s the second half of the auction starting?”

“It begins at eight tonight.”
“Okay, thanks. I owe you a dinner!” Ending the call, Ellie’s annoyance with Carole intensified. “You won’t be able to continue working for Harvillston, Carole. Take care.” Without waiting for a response, she quickly returned to the ward.
Inside, the atmosphere was heavy, even among family. Brisay in aa, Kaiden stood by stoically, and Jorge brooded over Kaiden’s disrespect.
“Kaiden, I have to go to Hagua,” Ellie announced, grabbing her bag, urgency evident in her voice.
“Now?” Kaiden questioned.
Ellie nodded firmly.
Without hesitation, Kaiden escorted her out. He wasn’t concerned about Brisa. She was merely a tool for Jorge’s maniption, and Jorge would ensure her safety.
From a distance, Carole watched as Kaiden and Ellie left hand in hand. Such a simple gesture, yet it spoke volumes about their bond—pure, caring, and free from pretense. Carole felt a pang of sadness, but her energy for jealousy had waned.
Kaiden’s directive for her to leave Harvillston signified his decision was final. Any plea from her now would only taint their shared history. Carole weighed her options and concluded it wasn’t worth thepromise.
