?Chapter 522:
“It’s not your concern!” Ellie shot back, her eyes shing with anger. How dare he.
“Who will look after you if I don’t?” Kaiden let out a mockingugh. He leaned in close, his tone harsh and possessive. “Mrs. Thorpe, the only person responsible for you now is me.”
Not Howard.
He had arranged a project for Howard to keep him busy, ensuring he wouldn’t have time to approach Ellie for a while.
“Leave me alone!” Ellie hissed.
At that moment, Daniel, who hade with Susanna to visit, walked in. He was just in time to witness Ellie trying to shove Kaiden away. The sight of the IV needle tugging at her arm and causing her difort made his expression instantly darken.
The nurse, readjusting Ellie’s IV needle, suppressed the urge to scold both the stubborn patient and the uncooperative family member, fully aware of their VIP status in the hospital.
Inside the room, Susanna kept Elliepany, their conversation light and amiable. Outside, Daniel was representing his family in a cordial exchange with Kaiden.
“I should have paid my respects to the Thorpe family upon my return, but I’ve been preupied,” Daniel said to Kaiden.
Kaiden, ever diplomatic, replied, “You’re too kind, Mr. Lambert.”
He silently noted the irony in Daniel’s im of being busy, knowing full well that his schedule was filled with exchange student duties alongside Susanna. He chose not to call out the inconsistency, his attention instead drifting toward the figure visible through the door’s slight opening.
The ties between the Thorpe and Lambert families spanned generations, with only Leo and Daniel’s elder brother maintaining that bond in the current era.
“Mrs. Thorpe isn’t really a Gordon, is she?” Daniel mused aloud, not expecting an answer. “It exins why your wife’s family didn’te to confront you about the rumors between you and Carole.”

Despite learning of Ellie’s unrted lineage, Daniel couldn’t help but feel a growing sympathy for her.
Kaiden, taken aback, admitted, “I thought you’d advocate for Carole.”
Daniel offered a casual shrug. “Leo was more invested in Carole’s well-being than us, insisting on your lifelongmitment to her happiness in his final moments.”
His words, though true, carried an undertone of disapproval. Kaiden couldn’t discern whether the disapproval was aimed at him or at thete Leo, who could no longer answer such grievances. Before meeting Ellie, Susanna had been a fervent fan of Carole. Now, her admiration had shifted entirely to Ellie, a schr both talented and beautiful.
Throughout the afternoon, Susanna devoted herself to Ellie’sfort, fetching water and peeling fruit, until finally, Daniel escorted her away.
Ellie’s left hand, swollen from the IV’s blood backflow, prompted Kaiden to ask a nurse for an ice pack.
