    As Elliey in his arms, consciousness slipping away, a figure entered the room. She couldn’t make out his face, but the tinum ring on his left hand caught her eye—it was the same style as the diamond ring she wore around her neck.


    Just as Howard was about to pick Ellie up off the floor, an arm blocked him.


    “Mr. Lee, you’re not the right person for this,” Kaiden said to him.


    Those words left Howard frozen. He understood that Kaiden was asserting his position as Ellie’s husband. While Howard was at a loss for words, Kaiden had already lifted Ellie into his arms and exited the ssroom.


    As he held her, Kaiden immediately noticed her fever was unusually high. He moved quickly, taking long strides and carrying her effortlessly despite her being an adult.


    “Ellie!” Susanna called, chasing after them.


    By the time she made it downstairs, Kaiden had already ced Ellie in the car. Daniel emerged from the break room when he heard the noise, and upon spotting Kaiden’s hands on Ellie’s waist and her bent legs, he found himself strangely irritated.


    “Why do you look so upset?” Susanna caught Daniel’s dissatisfied expression. “They’re married, after all.”


    Despite knowing about Ellie and Kaiden’s rtionship, Daniel had never paid much attention to it. Yet, seeing them so close together now… What made it so bothersome?


    He had heard about Ellie’s age—she was only twenty-one, just a year younger than Susanna. How could Kaiden be fine with that?


    “Daniel, do you have any idea where Mr. Thorpe might be taking Ellie?” Susanna asked, her worry for Ellie evident in her tone. She hoped Daniel could help ensure she was safe.


    Back in the ssroom, Howard stood staring at his empty hands, watching Ellie being taken away and feeling an unfamiliar emptiness within.


    “Howard, was that the same attractive guy we saw with Ellie in the library yesterday?” one of the students asked.

    “Yes, that was him.”


    “He sure is good-looking. But why did you let him take Ellie away? Aren’t you into her? You should chase after them!”


    Howard gave a bitterugh. “She’s out of my league.”


    “What do you mean out of your league? You’ve got looks, a great body, a solid family, and talent to boot. What’s missing?”


    “The guy she’s with isn’tcking in any of those areas either.” In fact, Kaiden was even more impressive.


    Howard sighed. Kaiden had a point—once he graduated, Howard doubted he would even be in the running to approach Kaiden on equal terms.


    Howard’s roommate shook his head. “Shouldn’t you at least tell her how you feel? Are you okay with the fact that she will never be aware of your feelings?”


    Of course not. If he were okay with it, he wouldn’t have rushed back from Annd in the first ce.


    Just as Howard was gearing up to go after them, his phone rang. It was his father.
