    Kaiden didn’t know what to say.


    He had simply picked up a random book, without first finding out what it was about. No wonder the only things he saw in the book were details about cows, pigs, and sheep.


    “I just want you toe back home,” he finally confessed.


    He really wanted her to change her mind about the divorce.


    Ellie was shocked by this request. She stared at him in astonishment, her lips slightly pursed.


    “Kaiden, I… I can’t figure it out. Why don’t you agree to a divorce?” Unable to resist the temptation, she asked jokingly, “Is it because you love me?”


    Kaiden’s Adam’s apple bobbed, and his heart skipped a beat.


    “You’re the only one who can be the perfect Mrs. Thorpe,” he told her. She was the only woman he wanted to be his wife, no one else.


    Ellie didn’t say anything at first. Instead, she began kicking some stones near her feet, running his statement through her head.


    So, in his mind, she was just a trophy wife? She sneered, feeling foolish for continuing to hold onto the illusion that he might have feelings for her.


    “But Kaiden, I don’t want to be your perfect woman,” she pointed out to him.


    She just didn’t want to upy such a position in his life. What she wanted was something else entirely.


    “Let’s get divorced,” she added with finality. Divorce! This word again?


    Kaiden felt as if he was being repeatedly provoked.


    In that instant, his mind shed back to Howard, who had been with Ellie at the library studying and had followed her just moments before. Without thinking, he grabbed Ellie’s chin.


    “Ellie, you’re asking for a divorce because you’ve fallen for Howard, eh?” he growled.

    Kaiden’s repeated mention of Howard annoyed Ellie so much that she couldn’t care less about how he felt.


    “Yes! So what? What if I love him?” she retorted defiantly. Almost instantly, she could see the effect of her statement. There were turbulent emotions swirling in his eyes like a dark tornado.


    “He’s much better than you,” she added, putting more salt in his wounds.


    The Howard she knew would never get involved with other women while in a rtionship. This was not something that could be said for Kaiden.


    Ellie took a deep breath and then exhaled slowly. She really wanted to settle this issue as quickly as possible.


    “Kaiden, what will it take for you to agree to a divorce?” she asked him straightforwardly. “Someone of your status should not have any trouble finding the perfect Mrs. Thorpe. So, you don’t need to cling to me at all.”


    Kaidenughed bitterly. His anger was written clearly on his face, making him seem even more calm and indifferent.
