?Chapter 490:
She recognized the car.
It belonged to Kaiden.
“Ellie, what’s wrong?” Howard wore a puzzled expression when Ellie abruptly halted.
“It’s nothing.” Ellieposed herself and resumed walking. Almost simultaneously, Kaiden’s ck Maybach roared to life, smoothly circling therge roundabout in front of the library and strategically blocking Ellie and Howard’s path. The window glided down, revealing Kaiden’s face.
Ellie shot him a cold stare, maintaining silence.
The air grew tense.
“Mr. Thorpe.” Howard offered a polite nod to Kaiden, then turned to Ellie. “Ellie, I’ll wait over there for you.”
Grateful, Ellie smiled at him.
Howard’s deliberate avoidance in this moment was the utmost respect and protection he could extend to her.
Observing Ellie exiting the library with Howard and smiling radiantly at him, Kaiden couldn’t help but feel a surge of irritation and jealousy as she maintained a cold indifference toward him.
Before he could speak, Ellie beat him to it. “Kaiden, let’s get a divorce.”
“What? What did you say?”
It hit him like a bolt from the blue.
The surroundings plunged into silence, as if even the wind held its breath.
Kaiden, slow to react, thought he had misheard.
Bruce, in the driver’s seat, was shocked to the core, avoiding making a sound.
How had he stumbled into yet another dramatic scene? Was being a subordinate now a challenging upation?
Ellie took a shallow breath and continued, “Well… We didn’t have romantic feelings for each other from the beginning. Our marriage was a result of the engagement between the Gordon and Thorpe families. I am willing to step down from the position of Mrs. Thorpe. It’s better for both you and me.”

In an effort to find peace of mind, she chose to pass on the title of “Mrs. Thorpe” to Carole.
“About the divorce papers…”
The car door swung open abruptly, and Kaiden exited the back seat, grabbing Ellie’s wrist and abruptly cutting her off.
His fingers unconsciously tightened, his gaze intensely focused on her. It was Kaiden’s instinctive move, a fear of Ellie leaving prompting him to hold onto her.
“Ouch,” Ellie gasped in pain.
Kaiden snapped back to reality, releasing his grip. “Ellie, is it because I didn’t stayst night? Or because I didn’t immediately agree to let Carole leave Harvillston?”
He maintained a calm exterior, but turmoil churned within him.
He couldn’t fathom why she suddenly sought a divorce.
Her words irked him to no end.
Ellie shook her head. “That’s not why.”
