    ?Chapter 485:

“Don’t overthink it,” Kaidenforted Carole, though his wordscked genuine warmth.

As Kaiden watched Brisa being restrained on the bed by the medical team, awaiting the medication’s effect, Ellie’s look of disappointment haunted his thoughts.AdChoicesADVERTISING

Brisa’s situation was fraught with risks. Kaiden, not wanting to entangle Ellie, kept silent about Brisa’s condition.

Their marriage, kept a secret for so long, had led the Thorpes to believe Kaiden was indifferent to Ellie, possibly on the brink of divorce. It wasn’t until Jorge’s party that the Thorpes truly noticed Ellie. But with that attention came danger, as Brisa’s unexpected kidnapping proved.

“Kaiden, your cor’s a bit crinkled.” Carole stretched up, reaching to straighten Kaiden’s cor.

He stepped back, avoiding her touch.

ncing at the creases, he remarked indifferently, “It’s no big deal. Ellie grabbed it earlier.”

He had no desire to smooth those creases. In his eyes, Carole glimpsed an unusual softness.

A shadow crossed Carole’s face. “Were you with her beforeing here?”

“I am her husband. It’s natural for us to spend time together, isn’t it?”

“That’s not what I meant,” Carole quickly corrected, realizing her slip. “I just hope I’m not intruding on anything.” But she had indeed interrupted them.

Kaiden sat back, legs crossed, eyeing Carole contemtively.

“Why are you looking at me like that, Kaiden? Is something on my face?” Carole asked, feeling unnerved under his gaze.

“Carole, was Light the brand you defaulted on?”

“Yes.” Carole fought back her anxiety. “Is there an issue, Kaiden?” The sudden mention caught her off guard.

“Ellie’s the stylist for the Light fashion show,” Kaiden revealed.

Carole’s heart raced, her hands tensing beneath the table as she struggled to contain her rm.

She had purposefully not told Kaiden that her previous coboration was with Light, the same brand Ellie had worked for.

Subconsciously insecure, Carole feared Kaiden’s loyalty to Ellie might influence his decisions. So, she had asked for his favor without disclosing the full context.

“I knew that,” Carole replied, regaining herposure. “I wasn’t aware Miss Gordon was involved untilter. Had I known, I wouldn’t have broken the contract, despite my challenges. It’s a relief the show was sessful; I’d feel terrible if I’d caused any harm to Miss Gordon.”

    Kaiden’s face remained unreadable.

He toyed with a cigar, showing no intention of lighting it.

    Carole’s anxiety grew.

She ventured, “Does Miss Gordon hold a grudge for that? I’ve apologized, but it seems she hasn’t forgiven me…”

Her voice trailed off as she looked down, feigning distress.
