    He didn’t hold much affection toward Brisa, but she was still his mother. More importantly, at least for Kaiden, Brisa was someone that his brother had deeply respected and always cared for.


    In a private hospital,


    The floor housing the VIP rooms was walled off from the rest of the building, with bodyguards standing vigil at every turn.


    Some of them were Kaiden’s men, and the rest answered to Jorge. The air crackled with tension as both sides eyed each other warily, ready to spring into action should the situation escte.


    “The patient has a superficial head wound. Her right hand is broken, while her right leg is bruised. She just needs a quiet rest and more sleep.” The doctor nced at Brisa, who was still unconscious after the surgery. “However, the patient has been taking neurological drugs for a long time, causing significant damage to her liver. She needs to pay close attention to her health after she recuperates.”


    Carole diligently wrote down notes and thanked the doctor repeatedly. She then walked him to the door, polite as ever.


    “Your wife is so beautiful and well-mannered, Mr. Thorpe!” the doctormended as he stepped out into the hall.


    Carole’s eyes instantly lit up at his words.


    “She is not my wife,” Kaiden said without missing a beat.


    Carole’s pleased expression froze, while the doctor hurriedly apologized with an awkward smile.


    Carole quickly collected herself and pretended like the doctor hadn’t said anything. “Did I bother your work, Kaiden? I panicked when your mom was wheeled into the operating room. I had no idea at the time that it was just to treat a fracture.”


    “Not at all.” Kaiden’s tone was still curt.


    She had, in fact, bothered him.

    There was a knock on the door, and a secondter, Bruce let himself into the ward.


    “I found it, Mr. Thorpe! Someone tried to kidnap your mother from the sanatorium, and she got hurt when she struggled with her assants.”


    Kidnapping?


    That sanatorium belonged to none other than Jorge. Nothing had happened all these years, yet the moment news of Kaiden’s apparent recovery leaked out, someone tried to abduct Brisa. Was Jorge behind this?


    Or was it Talon?


    Or perhaps… Did the two of them join forces?


    Anger flickered in Kaiden’s usually indifferent eyes.


    Beside him, Carole sighed to herself in relief.


    Zoey had told her that Kaiden had been behaving strangely in the past few days. Even today, he hadn’t shown up to thepany meeting, and provided no reason for his absence. Carole thought that he must have had a fight with Ellie, and figured that he had skipped work to see her.
