?Chapter 465:
At the end of the day, it all boiled down to the fact that Marvin was a dangerous man.
“Of course,” Ellie nodded.
University campuses were typically secure, and students were bustling to and fro at every hour of the day. It was a considerably safer environment than most private residences. This was also why Ellie had initially requested to stay in the university dormitories.
Baylee and Ellie soon disappeared into the dormitory building. Marvin’s expression turned cold. Instead of heading to the university’s main gates, he turned in a different direction.
Shrouded in the darkness of the night, a Pagani was parked in the corner of the street, unlit by anymppost. Marvin knocked on the driver’s side window of the car, and the window slowly rolled down.
“Done pretending?” Kaiden quipped.
Marvin scoffed and rolled his eyes. “And you? You’re not pretending to be disabled anymore, are you? Besides, I wasn’tpletely pretending.”
Kaiden nodded in acquiescence before peering at Marvin. “To think that you went so far as to hire a hypnotist to alter your memory and make your act all the more convincing… All for a woman? The Hill family is doomed.”
Kaiden’s words did not surprise Marvin. If anyone could run a thorough investigation, it would be Kaiden.
Marvin had indeed considered pretending at first, but Baylee was a sharp and intelligent woman. If he went that route, he would be risking discovery in the first few days. On the other hand, the effects of hypnotism did notst forever; they would diminish over time. Case in point, the effects wore off tonight.
Technically speaking, he had never put up an act in front of Baylee. He just adopted a few cunning tactics.
“Why is our Mr. Thorpe so cranky?” Marvin teased. “Did your woman dump you or something?”
Kaiden narrowed his eyes. “Ellie and I are legally married.”
There was no such thing as getting dumped when they were legally bound to each other.
???? ??????? ?? ?????????.???
Kaiden gave Marvin a sideways nce and raised an eyebrow sardonically, as if to say that someone like him, who resorted to such trickery, would never understand the sanctity of marriage.
Marvin understood the unspoken message perfectly, and he scoffed in indignation. This annoying bastard!
Kaiden lit a cigarette and took a drag. Marvin was still there. Perhaps it was sympathy, or maybe boredom, but Kaiden offered him a stick.
Marvin promptly declined, saying, “Baylee doesn’t like the smell of smoke.”
“As if you can even meet with her tonight,” Kaiden mocked.
Marvin made a face but ultimately epted the cigarette. “You’re one to talk,” he retorted. “Aren’t we in the same boat?”
That night, Baylee had a dream.
In it, she was living in arge t located in the city center. Although spacious, the unit only had one bedroom, with the other two rooms converted into a study and a collection room.
Marvin was there, too, sleeping on her living room sofa for the time being.
In the dream, Baylee was sleeping peacefully in her bedroom when the locked door suddenly swung open from the outside. A tall and imposing man walked in and sat on the side of her bed, silently staring at her.
