?Chapter 456:
With the first light of day, Ellie prepared a few essentials for school. Descending the stairs, she recalled the clothes she had purchased for Cecelia and took them with her.
The hotel arranged for Ellie by Critport University was adjacent to the student dormitory. The sight of these youthful faces lifted Ellie’s spirits.
Nevertheless, this positive mood was short-lived.
Ellie received a call from Litzy.
“Ellie,e back immediately,” Litzy scolded with frustration. “Cecelia is waiting for you on the sofa.”
There was an issue that Ellie couldn’t escape.
Demi excelled at tattling.
It took just over ten minutes to drive from Critport University to the Gordons’ house.
The entire Gordon family sat in an orderly line on the sofa, with even Houston skipping work.
Demi sobbed in Litzy’s embrace, and upon spotting Ellie, her cries intensified. “Mom, Ellie insulted me so badly. I don’t want to go on living. She made me kneel down in front of so many people. I’ve lost all my dignity.”
Litzy red at Ellie and remarked to Cecelia, “Look at the granddaughter you raised.”
Seemingly oblivious to Demi’s and Litzy’s words, Ellie retrieved a leather jacket from her shopping bag and asked, “Grandma, I bought you this. Do you like it?”
“Take it back.” Stern-faced, Cecelia brushed away Ellie’s offering.
Unintentionally, the leather jacket slipped from Ellie’s grasp andnded on the floor.
A tense silence enveloped the room.
Demi observed the scene with a self-satisfied smile.
Remaining calm, Ellie uttered, “Grandma…”
“Don’t address me as grandma.” Cecelia abruptly raised her voice and fixed her gaze on Ellie with her cloudy eyes.

The sharpness of old age emerged in Cecelia’s eyes, cutting through the memory of past kindness.
“Ellie, did you ever consider me your grandmother? On my birthday, you promised me that you would ensure Demi stayed in school. What happened?” Cecelia questioned.
“Grandma, I only said I would consider it; I never made a promise,” Ellie exined calmly. “The school has rules and regtions. I can’t make this decision alone.”
“You’re just not trying hard enough! If you can’t influence the schoolmittee’s decision, why can’t Mr. Thorpe do it?”
The kind smile on Cecelia’s face disappeared and was reced by anger. She looked terrifying.
Ellie remained silent.
“Okay, forget about that for now. Let’s talk about what you didst night. What was that all about?” It seemed that Cecelia had only asked Ellie here to confront her.
“Grandma, do you know why I made Demi kneel and apologize?” Ellie asked, still holding onto a glimmer of hope that Cecelia would be fair.
“I know, but Demi didn’t mean to do that. It was an ident. Besides, you weren’t injured. Ellie, we’re family, and family should live in harmony,” Cecelia reminded her, her tone softening.
