?Chapter 401:
“You wish,” she muttered, looking away from him.
A bunch of young yboys had approached in hopes of currying favor with Kaiden, and they just happened to overhear the conversation between him and Ellie. They stopped short in shock.
Was this really the noble Mr. Thorpe discussing fried chicken and barbecue with Ellie? And Ellie, too, had she really just put on a sullen act to get her way? Wasn’t she always so elegant and demure?
What the hell?
Worse yet, they seemed to be discussing something else, something intimate that was meant to ur behind closed doors. And Ellie had basically refused Kaiden.
What was going on with these two?
As far as everyone else was concerned, Kaiden and Ellie came from two different worlds.
Yet, after what they had just seen, they couldn’t deny that the two made a perfect match. There was a vibe between them, an unseen barrier that closed them off from the rest of the world.
“Aren’t you bored just sitting there, Miss Gordon? Why don’t you y cards with us?” Carole, who had been gone for ten minutes, reappeared afterposing herself. “You wouldn’t mind, right, Kaiden?” she added, turning to smile at him.
After acknowledging Kaiden’s marriage to Ellie, she deemed this polite inquiry necessary.
Kaiden tilted his head toward Ellie, silently telling them that the decisiony with her.
Ellie’s eyes locked with Carole’s.
One gaze was calm and gentle, while the other was friendly and eager. Only the two women themselves knew that separate storms were brewing underneath the surface.
Ellie stood up and said, “Sure thing.”
She was not bored, of course, but she wanted to see what sort of tricks Carole was going to y.
Half an hour had passed. Ellie’s pile of chips had grown significantly, overshadowing Carole’s dwindling stack. In their most recent game, Ellie had won arge number of chips from her.
where stories grow
“Miss Gordon, you’re really skilled at cards,” Carole remarked with a sigh. “I’m almost out of chips.”
Her words seemed to act as a cue. Suddenly, a voice rang out across the room.
“Mr. Thorpe,e and help Carole with her cards! It’s her first game sinceing home, and she’s losing terribly. That’s not a good look!”
Ellie nced towards the source of the voice, her frown deepening as she fought to hide the chill in her gaze.
It was Aphrodite.
Meanwhile, Kaiden was lounging on a sofa, surrounded by a group of young men. He was more of a listener than a talker, his demeanor cool as he heard them out. Ever since his role as CEO of the GT Group became known, those who once ttered Erick had shifted their attention to him.
At the sound of Aphrodite’s voice, Kaiden turned. He noticed the frustrated expression on Carole’s face. Yet, she managed a smile and teased, “Kaiden, did youe to wee me back, or to team up with someone to pick on me?”
