Chapter 320:
“Yes.”
The car fell into a brief silence.
His response was unexpectedly direct.
Ellie, her eyes blinking and hands clenched, felt a surge of guilt. She avoided Kaiden’s gaze. “I need to stay with Baylee.”
The surgery for Marvinsted six hours, endingte into the night as the operating room lights finally turned off.
When the doors opened, Baylee quickly approached the doctor. “How is the patient?”
“The patient is out of immediate danger. He’ll wake up after the anesthesia wears off. However, his head injury is severe and requires close monitoring.”
“Thank you. Thank you for your efforts.” Baylee’s tension eased atst.
She would be deeply indebted to Marvin if he didn’t make it through.
Ellie gently patted Baylee’s shoulder, offeringfort.
Soon, a nurse arrived with some food, mentioning it was arranged by the director.
The director was Araceli, and Kaiden had yed a role in getting her help.
“Go smooth things over with your man,” Baylee suggested to Ellie. “I think he’s about to add me to his hit list.”
Ellie chose to stay at the hospital. Kaiden, with a stern expression, didn’t depart either. Instead, he secured an office through the Stephens family.
“How should I even begin to smooth things over?” Ellie pondered, confused. “I don’t understand why he’s insisting on staying.”
“He’s surely waiting for you,” Baylee pointed out, confused by Ellie’s question.
“Waiting for me?” This idea made Ellie’s heart shake.
Baylee encouraged her, “Go and smooth things over. Your man has been a big help today. I owe him my support for now.”

The conversation circled back. Ellie asked, “But how do I do that?”
“Give yourself to him? Ah, but that’s not an option right now,” Baylee mused, then suggested, “Maybe just go and kiss him.”
Ellie responded, “Don’t put such ideas in my head.”
Baylee found the idea quite reasonable.
She felt that she should give Kaiden a token of gratitude herself.
However, Kaiden was a man who had everything. It was tough for Baylee to think of something he might appreciate.
This situation was all thanks to Marvin. Baylee felt indebted to Kaiden.
Ellie gently tapped on the office door, hesitated for a brief moment, and then let herself in.
The office wasn’t veryrge. Kaiden sat there, scrolling through documents on his iPad, his expression stormy. It looked like a department head was about to face his wrath.
Whenever the boss reviewed documents in a foul mood, it usually meant trouble for his team.
